How do you feel about thank you notes?

Amid graduations, weddings, and summer celebrations, one thing keeps coming up in conversations: thank you notes.

The younger you are, the more likely you see writing them as a chore.

The older you are, the more likely you have gotten out of the habit of sending them and your mom is no longer prodding you to write them out (let alone offering to address and send them).

Here’s what I believe: Writing a thank you note is more than good manners—it’s a mindset reset.

It’s a pause. A moment to acknowledge generosity. A quiet act of reflection that says, “I see you. I value what you did.”

It’s an example of an energy  focused on gratitude. And when you’re grateful for things/people/experiences in your life, you get more of those kinds of things.

And life gets better.

So if you feel like writing a thank you note is a task, I’m asking you to flip the script.

Writing thank you notes is almost better than the gift itself.

It’s the opportunity to remember that there’s someone who cares about you that much.

Someone who thinks enough of you to share their resources, whether that be time, money or treasured items.

So taking the time to sit in the moment, appreciate what you’ve received and acknowledge the source is the real golden moment.

I choose that space because gratitude is one of the most powerful practices I have in my life.

I believe in handwritten notes after a great meeting or a meaningful connection. In today's society I think the effort beyond a digital connection can make a great impact!

I love them and send them-- handwritten via "snail mail". It is the ultimate show of gratitude. Why? Because it shows the recipient that I took the time to sit down with a pen, pour my thoughts out into a card, address, stamp and mail it. That shows true care and attention. And honestly, it's almost as much about me as it is them. A reflection of gratitude is so good for the soul.
