How to source Passive Candidates?
As a Recruiter, my biggest challenge is sourcing passive candidates as is for every recruiter.
Passive Candidate?
The ones who are not actively looking for a job but may consider it if presented with a good opportunity. They are not active on job portals and unlikely to apply for a job post.
Why should we hunt for Passive Candidates?
Passive candidates are stable and mostly successful in their current roles. Since they’re not job-hopping, they tend to bring more depth and loyalty when they do switch.
How to find them?
· Job Boards: Though they are less likely to be active on job boards, they might have created their profile a few years ago. Check the old profile. You will find the contact number, which may have gone inactive, but 99% of the time, the email ID remains constant. We rarely change our email IDs. Drop them a well-written mail highlighting how the new role is a fantastic switch for them.
· Social Media: Most passive candidates don’t visit job boards, but they do use social media daily. Platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, and even Reddit. Reaching out to them is the easiest and best way across these platforms.
· Head Hunting: Identify the company from where you want to hire the talent. Go through company website, social media, newsletter, check for likes and comments and identify suitable candidates.
· Blind Hunting: Call the reception of the company and ask for relevant department. If you get connected to the right person, make the pitch. It's tough but works.
· Mapping: Make a list of all departments/divisions on the company, identify the hierarchy. Reach out to the right level.
· Networking Events: Join relevant events. For example, a networking event for Finance professionals. Attend and interact with people. Don't pitch job but tell them what you are doing and what is your objective from this event.
· Social Media Posts: When you post a job or do a post about it, make sure to leave your contact information. Passive Candidates may not like/comment on your post but are likely to reach out personally.
It's important to stay patient, the moment desperation kicks in you will lose focus. Candidates can figure out easily that you are desperate, it gives negative vibes. Stay focused, try to be clear in your messages, and make sure to highlight why this job is a good fit for them.
Happy Hunting!
