It all comes down to a simple, structured funnel. Today, I’m breaking it down step by step so you can apply it to your own business.


What is a YouTube Funnel?

A funnel is the journey a potential client takes from discovering your content to making a purchase. But not all viewers are the same—each person falls into one of three categories:

  • Cold Audience (Unaware): They don’t know you yet but found your content.
  • Warm Audience (Problem-Aware): They know they have a problem and are searching for solutions.
  • Hot Audience (Solution-Aware): They know about you and your offer but need a final push.

Your goal is to move viewers through each stage by providing the right content and calls to action.


The Three Stages of a YouTube Funnel

1. Top of Funnel (TOFU) – Attract Cold Audiences

The top of the funnel is about getting attention and reaching as many new viewers as possible.

Content Focus: Broad, engaging topics that resonate with a large audience. Examples:

  • How to Start a YouTube Channel
  • How Uploading to YouTube Changed My Business
  • The New Editing Style That’s Going Viral

These videos work because they:

  • Attract a large audience
  • Are relatable to many people
  • Are highly shareable, which helps with YouTube’s algorithm

Call to Action: I direct viewers to watch more of my content, subscribe, or check out a free resource.


2. Middle of Funnel (MOFU) – Nurture Warm Audiences

At this stage, people know they have a problem, and they’re looking for specific solutions.

Content Focus: Educational, step-by-step, and in-depth content. Examples:

  • How to Outsource Video Editing (Step-by-Step)
  • How to Get Clients on YouTube (Answering FAQs)

This content works because it:

  • Builds trust and authority
  • Helps viewers solve a real problem
  • Positions me as the go-to expert

Call to Action: I invite viewers to download a lead magnet (a free checklist, guide, or resource) to learn more.


3. Bottom of Funnel (BOFU) – Convert Hot Audiences

Now, we focus on turning warm leads into paying clients.

Content Focus: Persuasive, action-driven content that encourages conversions. Examples:

  • Testimonial videos from past clients
  • Video sales letters explaining my offers
  • Posts on my community tab about my services

One simple BOFU strategy: On my YouTube homepage, I have a “Work With Me” section where potential clients can explore my services.

Call to Action: I tell viewers to book a call or check out my offers directly.


How My YouTube Funnel Works (Step-by-Step Process)

1. YouTube Video → Call to Action

Every video includes a clear next step based on the audience’s awareness level:

  • Book a free strategy call (for warm leads)
  • Download a lead magnet (for nurturing relationships)
  • Join my membership (for those ready to take action)

2. Lead Magnet Download → Email List

Once someone downloads a free resource, they enter my email nurture sequence where I:

  • Send weekly video updates
  • Provide valuable YouTube growth tips
  • Introduce my services naturally

3. Strategy Call → Personalized Offer

For those who book a call, I:

  • Identify their biggest struggles with YouTube
  • Offer tailored solutions
  • Recommend the best service (editing, coaching, or full YouTube strategy)
