How work has changed post-pandemic

The last two years have changed the future of work in a way that will last long. HR leaders need to figure out how these trends will affect the company in the short and long term and how much they will change strategic goals and plans accordingly.

For hybrid work and to meet changes in employee expectations, the employee value proposition (EVP) needs to change.

How people work is always changing, which has permanently changed how employees feel about their jobs and what they expect from them.

Hybrid work could be a great chance or a big risk, especially for people with different skills.

With these nine high-impact trends, companies have a great chance to set themselves apart and become the employers of choice.

#BrianKropp, Distinguished Vice President at #Gartner, says, "Chief human resource officers (CHROs) are facing problems that have never been seen before: an exhausted workforce and a very competitive job market." "At the same time, this environment gives CHROs a great chance to lead talent into the future and make their companies stand out as great places to work."

These seven trends have a big effect on the employee experience. This shows how the employee value proposition (EVP) needs to change and adapt to changes in employee expectations.

  1. Mainstreaming hybrid work: Continued hybrid work, 75% of hybrid or remote knowledge employees say they want more flexibility. A corporation that returns to an on-site strategy may lose 39% of its employees. Hybrid workplaces require employee-driven flexibility, culture connectedness, and human leadership.
  2. Talent shortage: HR leaders are pressured to fill roles with important competencies to meet market needs and drive organizational change. In today's economy, there's pressure to learn key skills while minimizing costs. Expand your talent strategy as part of strategic planning or if skills gaps arise. Create protocols, standards, and infrastructure that help people switch roles. This creates an internal labor market and fosters job-hopping.
  3. Measurement of employee well-being: In an organization measuring employee experience is important. Including engagement surveys and turnover statistics don't reveal the full picture that may affect performance and retention. 70% of employers' well-being investments in the last two years aren't benefiting employees. Include well-being in your EVP to attract and retain individuals.
  4. DEI results may fall: Remote and hybrid employment won't benefit everyone. This hurts DEI (Diversity, Equality and Inclusion). On-site workers are 76% more likely to be promoted than remote workers, say, managers. Women and minorities seek flexible work; proximity bias is unfair. In a hybrid future, you must remove bias and support minority brilliance.
  5. Increased turnover: Companies are seeing the impact of employees wanting mixed work. When employees are forced to work full time, turnover increases, and 52% believe flexible work arrangements influence their decision to stay. Hybrid organizations minimize the emotional costs of resigning and no longer regard location; hence turnover will rise. Engage hybrid employees in talent procedures to expand employee networks.
  6. Gen Z wants work: Younger generations are comfortable with hybrid jobs, but they lack experience. Remote employment provides online interactions and a flexible schedule compared to employees coming to the office where they get a chance to connect with their managers and colleagues, which may increase their efficiency and help them understand the organizational culture. Gen Z's expectations have changed post-pandemic, so their needs will affect office redesign, onboarding, and development.
  7. EVP wants shorter workweeks: Competition and inflation increase pressure on wages, yet many companies can't raise pay as quickly as people want. All employers can't compete on pay alone if inflation rises. Companies must rethink EVP with fewer hours. C-suite leaders and hiring managers must review the responsibilities and processes of EVP.

Even before the pandemic, more and more companies were using nontraditional tools to keep an eye on their employees. This trend will only grow as remote workers are watched and health and safety data are collected. Make sure to follow best practices to make sure that employee information and analytics are used responsibly.
