How to Write Content that AI Can't?

How to Write Content that AI Can't?

Content is king.

Well, at least that's what everyone says but, ironically, most content writers are paid like peasants... and not kings. But why is that?

Are those most writers just not good enough or is the world in a delusion and that content is not really the king?

The Harsh Truth

Like all things in 2022, this too goes back to Elon Musk.

One of Elon Musk's co-founded startups, OpenAI, developed "GPT-3". It is a machine learning model that was trained to learn the human language to reproduce the completely authentic text.

In simpler words, if you asked it a question, it wouldn't simply pull up a Google result like Siri or Alexa. Rather, it would give you a completely unique text that you probably wouldn't find elsewhere.

This was achieved by feeding the entire internet's information to the ML model and about 10-20 million dollars.

To make matters worse for content writers, OpenAI's API that provides access to GPT-3 is used to build AI content writing tools and sold to the general public for over 100-1,000 times the price.

That's definitely some ROI from "content".

So, is it game over for content writers? Hell naw! I wouldn't be here then.

The Silver Lining

At the risk of sounding like a boomer, there are some things that this AI can't do. At least for the foreseeable future.

You see, while the product may be kickass, the content it produces is still mediocre and is limited by the data it has.

For instance, if you were to ask it a question on a topic that was not widely explored on the internet, then it would blurt out BS.

Further, it was engineered to produce "unique" and "authentic" content. Hence, it does not do a great job of supporting statements with real numbers, providing insightful statements, or researching factual evidence.

In a nutshell, the AI is best suited to produce very generic content in a highly saturated niche (especially ones that typically have no "right" or "wrong" and are open to interpretation) like, say, fashion and lifestyle.

So, What Should Content Writers Do?

If you want to grow as a content writer, then you need to go beyond just writing essays.

Content should be crafted not only to engage the reader but also in a way that would generate quantifiable returns. And you can do this only when you use data to guide you.

That's where SEO content writing comes in. *ahem ahem*

SEO helps you curate targeted content. Content that you know has a high likelihood of doing what you expect it to do in terms of achieving business goals.

But what else could you do if you're not big on SEO?

Your content needs to be insightful. That means, include analogies, statistics, and studies within your content. Finally, provide insights that only someone who researched that particular topic could give.

Next, choose an industry that has a high demand for content but no proper content out there.

For instance, the crypto industry is relatively new and there are very few people who can even barely scratch the surface. The same goes for the content. There is very less insightful and easy-to-digest content in this space. And not to mention a lot of misinformation that the AI cannot recognize.

To Sum Up

Content is still the king but you need to go beyond just writing essays if you want to stay afloat.

Use data to curate targeted content and write insights that only people who have researched the topic could give.

Finally, consider an industry that is in dire need of content but has very little of it. But make sure that you too are good at it and are interested in it.
