Human Connect -a new skillset for the budding managers
My nearly 20 years of working in the corporate environment has given me some great experiences including the chance to mentor new managers. The journey from a fresh graduate to the first job and then getting promoted to a Manager is never easy. All through education, one learns to perform individually and is rewarded for personal success. The first responsibilities one gets in a job is also a showcase of what he/she can deliver as an individual. Then comes the realization of becoming a manager. This is where a new chapter begins!
No more is it enough to do a good job, neither is one’s individual flair a strength anymore. Keeping the team motivated and focused on the organizational goal is now the core of effectiveness. This phase is also the beginning of one's understanding of the bigger organizational picture. Understanding people and working on their strength is what one has to learn by error and trial. This is the time when the maximum amount of unlearning and new learning in terms of people skills becomes crucial. A transition from individual contributor to a manager if done properly can propel one to great heights. On the other hand, this can be counterproductive for a new manager who has not understood the underlying science or is unwilling to invest any time to this subject.
The study of human behaviour (as a subset of Psychology) may be termed as an artistic science or a scientific art depending on the pair of eyes! It deals with how people behave in different situations and helps us understand what drives or motivates them to great achievement. It is thus prudent to learn a few tenets of Human Connect to help become better managers.
I have created a practical workshop which includes some assessments and is interwoven with a lot of real life business stories#. This and a number of other learnings are what I package in a module that can act as a springboard to the budding managers. Sometimes I wonder how much more we could have achieved had we received such support in our early years.

And this human connect, whenever loose ground, starts showing in the productivity of the manager and that of the organisation. I'm sure your workshop will be beneficial for all.
