Imposter Syndrome: The Unexpected Superpower Fuelling Your Growth

Imposter Syndrome: The Unexpected Superpower Fuelling Your Growth

Let’s talk about that sneaky, uncomfortable, mildly unhinged voice in your head that says:

"You have no idea what you're doing."

"Everyone else has it figured out."

"They’re going to realise you’re a total fraud by next Tuesday."

Yes, we’re talking about imposter syndrome — that charming inner monologue that loves to drop in just as you’re about to do something ambitious or exciting.

In 2020 and 2021, it was a daily companion for me. No matter how hard I worked, I always felt like others were outpacing me. I’d think, “Sure, I’m working hard, but what if they’re working harder? Smarter? Better dressed?” The internal pressure was real.

But here’s the thing I’ve learned: Imposter syndrome, when handled right, can actually be a superpower.

Doubt: The Secret Sauce of Growth

Yes, it’s uncomfortable. Yes, it makes you question your sanity (and your business plan, your email tone, and whether “Warm regards” makes you sound like a Victorian ghost). But that same questioning is also what fuels progress.

Imposter syndrome doesn’t let you coast. It keeps you in motion. It forces you to keep learning, evolving, and staying sharp. It says, “Hey, you might not be the expert yet — but you could be, if you keep going.”

In fact, if you're feeling totally confident all the time... maybe you're not stretching yourself enough.

The Hustle of "Not Enough"

Feeling like a fraud can drive a powerful kind of momentum. It pushes you to prepare more thoroughly, work harder, stay curious, and innovate — not because someone’s making you, but because something inside you refuses to settle.

In my case, it propelled business evolution. It made me question my approach constantly — and then level it up. There were no shortcuts, no “good enough” moments. It was full-throttle learning with a side of mild existential dread. Fun times!

But Seriously…Here's the real plot twist: Pressure is a privilege!

It means you care. It means you're in the game. That nervous energy you feel before launching something new or putting yourself out there? That’s what growth feels like. It's not a flaw — it's your internal signal that you’re aiming high and stepping up.

The moment you stop feeling that pressure? That might be when you’ve stopped dreaming big.

So next time that little voice pipes up with “What if you’re not good enough?” — just smile politely and say,

“Maybe not yet. But I’m working on it. And that’s the point.”

Final Thought (and a Hug, if You Need One)

Imposter syndrome won’t disappear. But it can become the thing that drives your best work. That fear of not being enough? It’s often proof that you’re already becoming more than you thought possible.

So wear that self-doubt with a bit of humour. Keep pushing. Keep learning. Keep evolving.

After all — the pressure you're feeling means you're doing something that matters.

And remember: even the best out there feel like frauds sometimes. They just keep going anyway.
