Insula monoaminergic deficits in idiopathic RBD - a new prodromal marker of α-synucleinopathies ?

We are thrilled to share our recent work investigating extranigrostriatal monominergic deficits in idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder (#iRBD)—a potential early stage of #α-synucleinopathies, including #Parkinson’s disease and #Dementia with Lewy Bodies (#DLB) .

🔍 What makes this study significant?

  • Identified insular monoaminergic deficits using an innovative imaging Voxel-wise application to standard Dat imaging
  • Demonstrated that iRBD patients with these deficits face a significantly higher risk of phenoconversion to PD or DLB, independently from nigrostriatal deficits.
