It's Time To Restructure Your Comfort Zone

It's Time To Restructure Your Comfort Zone

We are all human beings. The idea of feeling cozy, relaxed and secure is as close to us as our favorite foods. We love environments where we can do just what we are supposed to and check off yet another box from our assigned to-do list.

Think of your typical day. We are friends, and I ask you, “How have you been?” In response, you say: “Oh, you know, just really busy.” What does “busy” mean? It is almost a trend nowadays, and a contagious word. We are all very caught up with our lives and simply say that we are “busy,” when in reality we don’t know what that word means.

Well, what does it mean then? It is your own bubble, it is the zone where you simply feel great. You are always “busy,” no matter what. It is unlike anything else. You don’t have time for anything. You are the only person that knows what I am referring to. It is your own personal comfort zone. It’s your day to day routine that you go through.

What if you read a book? What if you volunteered for a day? What if you went on a road trip instead of flying places? What if you learned a foreign language? What if you learned how to drive a car with a manual transmission? What if you went to the gym and worked out?

That last one probably does not sound as fun as you want it to be, at least to begin with. You don’t want to go to the gym, because you don’t feel like it and you are tired. You had a “busy” day, didn’t you? You will be sore following your workout, so it will only make you feel worse. You will be so exhausted, right? At least in your mind. Your body may be tired, not your brain.

What if you did something extra on a daily basis? A task that you assigned to yourself, a task of your choice. It would be done on your terms and you would spend few extra hours a week dedicated to that designated task. Would that be difficult? What if those extra 5 hours a week added up to 260 hours or almost 11 extra days contributed to your personal growth in a calendar year?

But there is peer pressure. Happy hour with friends is waiting for you. How many excuses do you have? Oh, and didn’t I just hear that you had such as “busy” day?

If you live in your comfort zone, you won’t accomplish anything near the maximum of your potential, both personally and professionally. Set goals, be proactive, plan and be strategic.

How long will you be living in your bubble and wasting time not growing? We all have a different definition of our comfort zone. It is definitely time to look in the mirror and self-reflect. Stop pointing fingers. It starts with you. What can you do to be better today? It’s not about timing or how “busy” you are. It is about a will that has to come from within. Do something extra today. The ability, if you want to accomplish more in your life, solely belongs to you.

Very well said - we all need to take control of our time instead of letting it control us. Spending a little time on us is important.
