Jul 2025 | Illuminating the Future: How Quantified Energy is Revolutionizing Solar Inspection

The solar revolution is happening at breakneck speed. Every second, approximately 40 new solar panels are installed globally—a pace that will see more than 15 billion panels in operation by 2035. But here's the challenge: these panels are designed to last 30 years, but only if they're properly maintained. With global solar installations growing at 33% annually, the need for efficient asset management has never been more critical.

Enter Quantified Energy , Vertex Ventures SEA & India's latest Series A investment that's tackling this massive challenge with what can only be described as "X-ray vision for solar panels." Founded as a spin-off from Singapore's Solar Energy Research Institute (SERIS), QE has developed autonomous drone technology that peers inside solar installations to detect problems invisible to traditional inspections.

Their solution uses electroluminescence (EL) technology—injecting a small current into panels at night to make them emit a faint light that reveals hidden cracks, broken cells, and other defects. "Just as doctors use X-rays to look inside the human body, we use electroluminescence to look inside solar panels," Dr. WANG Yan , CEO & Co-Founder explains.

The breakthrough? QE has automated this process using autonomous drones, transforming manual, panel-by-panel inspection into a scalable solution that can scan entire solar farms overnight. Their record: 40,000 panels inspected in just 8 hours.

In a world racing to deploy renewable energy at unprecedented scale, Quantified Energy represents what we love to see: deep technical expertise meeting massive market opportunity, wrapped in a globally scalable business model.
