Landbell Group commits to Environmental Policy

News from Landbell Group

Taking another step on our sustainability journey, Landbell Group published its new policy on 5th June, in celebration of World Environment Day.

This Group policy extends our efforts beyond the environmental services we offer to our customers and lays out our commitment to addressing environmental impacts linked to our business operations and value chain.

Our materiality assessment identified three main environmental impact topics relevant to us:  Climate Action, Waste and Pollution, and Circular Economy.

Our Environmental Policy describes our approach to managing these impacts, which includes identifying key issues, setting specific actions and targets, implementing improvement measures, and tracking and reporting progress.

This Environmental Policy applies to all entities of Landbell Group and our activities globally. Affiliates in which we have minority shareholding are encouraged to implement it voluntarily.

Environmental compliance

On 27 May, the Council of the European Union adopted the new Ecodesign Regulation, which sets requirements for sustainable products.

The Regulation will replace and enlarge the scope of the current Ecodesign Directive, hence extending its scope beyond energy-related products and including all kinds of goods placed on the EU market.

Key product aspects under the Regulation include requirements on recycled content, environmental footprint, resource use and efficiency, energy use, possibility of recycling and possibility of recovery of materials.

The Ecodesign Regulation is framework legislation, which does not set specific measures, rather it enables their later adoption. In the upcoming years, this will set specific product requirements via a thorough stakeholder process.

Product information will have a strong focus, thus instruments like digital product passports, labels and information requirements will become increasingly important. The specifics will be worked out through stakeholder input and adopted via delegated acts.

Chemical compliance

The European Commission has adopted an EU-wide restriction on siloxanes D4, D5 and D6.

The Regulation enters into force on 6 June 2024 and the restriction will apply from 6 June 2026.

The conditions of the restrictions are outlined here and in the Annex to the Commission regulation.

D4, D5 and D6 are used in various consumer and professional products, including cosmetics, dry cleaning, waxes, and washing and cleaning products.

As reported by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), the restriction would potentially reduce up to 90% of emissions of these very persistent and very bioaccumulative substances into the environment.
