Our Educational System

Our schooling system is designed to put youngsters in the digits race with their classmates. The focus should be on enhancing our former selves, it’s me vs me. If we try to compare everyone on the same set of skills then the results will be non-productive. Humans are born with different qualities from each other, the system should be organized so that it will be easy for a person to pursue their attractions. This is healthy for individuals and the community too. Society should play its role in helping coming generations harness good characteristics and terminate destructive ones. But our system is focused on the same old methods and doesn’t seem to replace it with an advanced one. The academic system is concentrated on testing the memories while it undermines other important factors.

At the very start of education, not all children possess a great memory and they also take time to understand things. But there are no exceptions and everyone is expected to perform well, this leads to troubles for some kids which have lasting impressions over their lives. Kids with sharp intellectual capabilities tend to focus on other activities instead of harnessing their strong points. They feel proud so they brag about their accomplishments, instead of learning the social art of helping others they point out the mistakes of struggling kids. Those who don’t perform well don’t get much support rather they feel left out, classmates make fun of them, and teachers and parents are scolding them regularly. So they are inclined to fight their way out and not work on modification. Everyone around them makes sure that they believe themselves to be mindless ones who cannot do any better so their mindset shifts to other things of not much value. They develop the attitude of just hearing and neglecting it because they often hear humiliating words. They cannot fight back so they ignore.

The Ability to Focus and Think

The capability to differ and ask questions makes us think more in-depth and differently from everyone else. This should be the priority of early education to make children think before taking a step. They should be engaged in constructive arguments where they can express their perspective and ask questions without hesitancy. Entertainingly and interestingly, a daily dose of world wisdom other than their academic course will be a great start. If the scholastic system works the same for everyone then we must realize this and modify it accordingly.

Exercise No. 01

Here is an exercise where children can focus and think to express their thoughts without being judged, this will be the first step of getting them into the habit of thinking. Let’s begin:

Question

Share your views about the educational institution. (This exercise can be used for different age groups)

  1. What is it that you like and Why?

  2. What is it that you don’t like and Why?

  3. What solutions do you offer about the things you don’t like?

  4. What is it that you want to add and Why? Explain how is this addition going to be helpful for everyone.

  5. What is it that you want to remove permanently and Why? Explain how is this damaging for you and others.

  6. Sum up your answers in a short video. (Minimum one minute and Maximum three minutes)

  7. Feel free to say anything you like.

Things to Consider While Proceeding with this Exercise

  • Make sure that they are not under the impression of being judged.

  • Let them make writing mistakes, do not correct or point out them.

  • Do not force them to answer all these in one go. (Maximum 72 hours, Total time spent on this exercise must be more than one hour)

  • If they are quick to come up with replies make them write more than one answer to each question.

  • If they are unable to proceed, get them into a debate. To make it enjoyable you can start writing for them.

  • Motivate them for the short video summary. (Especially helpful for timid kids)

Pomodoro Technique

We often remember the start and the end of a typical meeting, same thing goes for a learning course. This strategy is prepared to get the most out of a learning experience. This will be useful for everyone. Here it is:

  • 25 Minutes study (with full focus) — Then a 5 Minutes break

  • After four sets totaling 120 Minutes a long break of 15 to 30 Minutes (In breaks, you can get them to revise by engaging them in a fun chatter)
