How to Boost Engagement, Make Learning Memorable, and Transform Lives
My Reflection - That epic learning never ends.
For too many people, school has become a bucket of water and a long quiet night.
Is there a better way to do school, one driven by engagement and real, authentic learning?
And can teachers reclaim what it means to be in the classroom? I think so.
Classrooms can be a space, a setting, for creativity to flourish, lives to transform, and fires to ignite.
The education system needs work. But educators can reclaim this space. Enough water and idleness can put a campfire out. But sometimes there are still embers, and that fire can burn again.
POWER OF STORY - MAKE YOUR SCHOOL A STORY
People think that stories are shaped by people. In fact, it's the other way around.
PEOPLE SHAPE STORIES – NO - STORIES SHAPE THE PEOPLE
STORIES ANIMATE WHAT WAS LIFELESS.
Because I believe school can be a story, an epic adventure where students are heroes and their teachers enter the stories with them.

NEW WAYS OF THINKING ABOUT LEARNING –
Lack of NEWNESS in today’s learning –
Today’s learning is generally with exceptions – A Reactive Learning
All learning integrates thinking and doing –
Reactive learning –
1. Thinking is governed by established Mental Models
2. Doing is governed by established habits of action
Therefore no newness !!
We get better by what we have always done.
We remain secure in our cocoon divorced and isolated from the larger world.
New way of learning –
All learning integrates thinking and doing
1. Deeper levels of learning creates increasing awareness of the whole – both as it is and as it evolves …..
2. And creates actions that increasingly become part of creating alternative futures – and increasingly serve the whole.
Make learning deeper – then there is depth of awareness and consequent source of action.
If awareness never reaches beyond superficial events and current circumstances, actions will be reactions.
On the contrary if we penetrate more deeply to see the larger whole that generates ‘what is’ and our own connection to this wholeness, the source and effectiveness of our actions can change dramatically.
Deeper learning through deeper thinking would lead to deep comprehensive awareness with consequential deeper seeing and meaningful dynamic actions.
A FIELD OF FUTURE WILL EMERGE FROM THIS KIND OF DEEPER LEARNING –
The process whereby we learn to PRESENCE – an emerging whole, to become what I remember George Bernard Shaw called a ‘ Force of nature’. In this way of learning – Reckoning with this – Force of Nature – new horizons are born. This is real learning !!
THE PERSON AND THE PRESENCE
Core capacity needed to access the field of future is PRESENCE !!
Person is the physical self – Good teachers should transition themselves from being Person to Presence –
WHAT IS THE PRESENCE ??

Is it deep listening ???!!!!
Is it being open beyond one’s pre- conception and historical ways of making sense ….???!!!
Is it Aura ……. !!!! ???
It is the newness of letting go the old identities and need to control – and making new choices to serve the evolution of life.
It is ‘letting come’ ( not letting go ….. ) of the newness by constantly participating in a larger field for change. When this happens the field shifts, and the forces shaping a situation can move from recreating past to manifesting or realizing an emerging future.
PRESENCE in our traditions –
Hinduism – The ATMA – the all pervading pure consciousness.
Christianity – Grace or Revelation or Holy Spirit
Taoism – Transformation of vital energy – from ‘ching’ into subtle life force (qi pronounced as chi) and spiritual energy (shin )
Buddhism – Quieting of the mind – Cessation – ceasing the chain of thoughts.
Islam ( Sufism ) – Opening of the heart !!
Each tradition describes this shift little differently –
How you do it In my opinion is very personal – to your BEING –
But for good Educators and Learners – YOU HAVE TO TRANSCEND FROM YOUR
PERSON – TO PRESENCE !!
This is learning in the New Context -
