Why You Should Stop Reading Design Books

Why You Should Stop Reading Design Books

Last year, I totally nailed the impossible task of not reading a single book on user experience design. I was so proud of myself, I almost gave myself a high five. Oh snap, what's the dealio with that? I was like a superhero, but without the cape.

Hey, don't get me wrong, books and I are cool.

Let's be real, some of those UX design books are as exciting as watching paint dry on a wall. Who's got time to read about fancy-pants concepts that won't help you fix a leaky faucet? Boring!

Well, that's definitely not my cup of tea.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but just reading won't turn you into a design wizard.

Unfortunately, some big shots in the UX world are making it seem like you gotta read the "Top 10 UX Books" or you're not a real designer. How silly is that? If you wanna be a UX designer, you better read XYZ by some author or else they'll kick you out of the club. It's like the secret handshake, but with words.

Listen up, folks! That's just a bunch of baloney!

Don't just stare at books about UX design, get your hands dirty and start doing it to really learn it!

Trying to learn to swim by just reading a book is like trying to learn to fly by watching a bird documentary. Apologies pal, but that ain't happening. Listen up, folks! You can cram your brain with all the UX design knowledge in the world, but if you don't use it, it'll disappear faster than a magician's bunny. Poof! Who needs boring books and lectures? Just jump in and make a hot mess! That's the real way to learn, baby!

No read-y, no practice-y, no learn-y.

When I wanted to learn about usability studies, I didn't hit the books. I went on a Hotjar adventure and read some cool articles about it.

So, I put my new skills to the test and played guinea pig with my own experiments. I did this thing and it was like, whoa, I learned so much better than if I just read a boring old book. Plus, now I'm basically an expert.

Book hype? Nah, I'll learn my own way.

Hey, don't sweat it if you haven't read every UX design book out there. Some folks out there are just showing off their book collection to impress others, but let's be real, they probably haven't even read half of them.

Books are like friends, they make you laugh, they make you cry, and they never leave you hanging.

They're like a GPS for your brain, guiding you through the vast wilderness of knowledge and showing you all the cool stuff to check out. Don't stress about reading every book out there. It's not the only way to level up your skills. Just chillax and enjoy the ride!

Don't be a bookworm or a couch potato, find the sweet spot between reading and doing! You wanna be a rockstar in the tech world? Just do both! Design and develop like a boss, and manage projects like a pro.

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!

I'd say, 'Start reading a marketing book.' I hadn't read much about design, but there's a big reason why I've stopped: 'Most often, it doesn't meet the business goal at all.
