Letting Go of What Holds Us Back

Letting Go of What Holds Us Back

I have been thinking a lot about the things that stop us from being happy or free. Sometimes we carry heavy thoughts or try too hard to do what other people expect. One song that made me think about this is called “Masochist” by Ren. At first, it sounds dark and even scary, because he keeps saying the word “kill.” But he doesn’t really mean to hurt anyone. What he means is that we should let go of the things that hurt us inside.

What the Song Means

When Ren says to “kill” things like labels, idols, he is really saying, don’t be trapped by them. We don’t have to live only by other people’s rules. We don’t have to pretend to be someone else. Life is short, and the song tells us to stop holding on to things that weigh us down.

The most important part of the song is when Ren says to “kill these metaphors I write to all attachments in this life.” This means he is using strong words to tell us: let go of the things that keep you from being yourself.

Why It Matters

This song asks us to think hard about what we hang onto. Some attachments—like love and friendship are good. But other attachments like greed, fear, or always trying to please others can make us unhappy. If we can let go of what hurts us, we can live more freely and be our true selves.

Art That Makes Us Think

Ren’s song is art. Art doesn’t always have to look happy or pretty. Sometimes it is loud, strong, or even scary, because it wants us to ask big questions. This song makes us think about what holds us back, and how letting go can help us grow.
