Life Isn’t Fair. What Are You Going to Do About It?
Let’s get one thing straight: life isn’t fair.
You know it. I know it. And you’ve probably had moments where you felt it in your bones.
You work hard, but someone less competent gets the credit. You show up for others, but they don’t reciprocate. You do everything "right," yet life throws curveballs that knock the wind out of you.
It’s frustrating. It’s demoralizing. And it’s reality.
But here’s what really matters: What are you going to do about it?
Because the truth is, unfairness isn't what breaks people—it's how they respond to it.
And here’s where Positive Intelligence (PQ) comes in.
When life feels unfair, your Saboteurs—those voices in your head that thrive on negativity—go into overdrive:
The Victim whispers, “Why me? This always happens to me.”
The Judge berates you: “You should have seen this coming. You’re not good enough.”
The Avoider says, “Let’s just ignore this and hope it gets better.”
And just like that, you stay stuck.
But what if, instead, you activated your Sage brain—the part of you that’s clear-headed, resilient, and solutions-focused? What if you turned this moment of unfairness into a moment of growth?
Step 1: Give Yourself a Deadline to Feel It (Then Move Forward)
Let’s acknowledge the obvious: unfairness hurts. And pretending it doesn’t? That’s not resilience—that’s repression.
So give yourself permission to feel it fully. Vent. Write it down. Talk to someone you trust. Feel it—but don’t live there.
Set a deadline: one day, one week—whatever you need. And when that deadline hits, you shift gears.
Because your Saboteurs want you to ruminate on how unfair life is. Your Sage wants you to take back control.
Step 2: Accept Reality Without Resistance
Here’s something that will set you free: Resisting reality doesn’t change it.
Wishing things were different is like yelling at the rain—it doesn’t stop the downpour.
Instead, ask yourself: ➡️ “What’s in my control right now?” ➡️ “How can I move forward from here?”
The answer to those two questions? That’s where your power is.
Step 3: Make a Plan—Even a Tiny One
Nothing keeps us stuck more than passivity. And nothing builds momentum like action.
Lost your job? Apply for one position today.
Relationship ended? Book that solo trip you’ve been postponing.
Feel stuck? Move your body—literally. Go for a walk, breathe, reset.
The brain loves progress, even if it’s small. Your Sage brain thrives on forward motion, not analysis paralysis.
Step 4: Shift from “Why Me?” to “What’s the Opportunity?”
This is the hardest shift—and the most powerful.
I won’t sugarcoat it—some things genuinely suck. Some losses are real, deep, painful.
But within every setback, there’s a lesson, a strength, a new possibility.
Your Saboteurs will say, “This is the end.” Your Sage will say, “What if this is the beginning?”
I’ve seen it in my coaching work over and over—people who turned heartbreak into self-discovery, failure into reinvention, setbacks into growth.
It’s not about toxic positivity. It’s about mental fitness. About recognizing that, while life isn’t fair, you always have a choice in how you show up.
Final Thought: This Is Just a Scene, Not the Whole Movie
This moment—this unfairness—is just one scene in the movie of your life. It’s not how the story ends.
You get to decide: Do you let this break you, or do you let it build you?
Because life may not be fair, but you? You are stronger, wiser, and far more capable than you think.
Now—what’s your next move? 🚀
