No Limits Entrepreneur of the Week: Maguerite Adzick
Congratulations to our No Limits Entrepreneur of Week, Marguerite Adzick!
Name: Marguerite Adzick, Founder & CEO of Addison Bay
Home: Philadelphia, PA
Bio: I am the founder & CEO of Addison Bay, a multi-brand active fashion company curating the best assortment of fashion-forward activewear all in one place. I grew up outside of Philadelphia and attended the University of Virginia, where I played a Division I sport. After graduating, I moved back to Philadelphia and worked for Resortwear brand, Lilly Pulitzer, for 6 years, producing and managing all ecommerce and campaign photography.
Why did you start your own business? I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and come from a family of motivated go-getters. I launched the company because I felt like the modern woman is constantly on the go and needed a modern wardrobe to keep up with her active lifestyle. In an effort to combine both style and function, I wanted to develop a one-stop space where activewear went beyond the time spent at the gym, where fashion-forward didn’t mean less function and looking good is feeling good.
How are you financing your business? After writing an in-depth business plan, I pitched the idea to a close group of people. From there, we raised enough capital through a family and friends round to launch the company.
What’s one piece of advice you wish you knew when you started? Trust your gut and go for it. A lot of people told me that having a baby and starting a business at the same time was not only crazy, but nearly impossible – I knew it was going to be hard (and IT IS!) but I have loved doing both at the same time. I really believe if you can put your head down, focus on your business plan & block out the noise - you can go SO far.
What tools do you use to stay organized? Calendars and to-do lists are never going out of style. I fill out every part of my day in my calendar, from my workouts in the morning to family time with my daughter & husband at night. This has helped me divide work and personal life and stay focused in each respective role.
