Let’s not sugarcoat it. LinkedIn is collapsing under its own weight and nobody wants to say it out loud. So I will.

The “professional network” has become an AI-rendered graveyard of engagement pods, bots pitching bots, sales spam dressed up as thought leadership, and recruiters automating hope into inboxes they’ll never check again.

We came here for trust. We stayed for connection. Now we scroll past a flood of synthetic nonsense that even the authors didn’t write. Authenticity? Dead. Discovery? Gone. Reach? Throttled unless you play the algorithm’s daily content roulette.

LinkedIn isn’t a professional network anymore. It’s a performance network. One big pitch deck wrapped in dopamine.


The Fall Was Slow, Then Sudden

  • First came the pods - tribes of professionals liking each other’s content like a cult worshipping the gods of engagement.
  • Then came the AI-written posts - generated in five seconds, scheduled at scale, and indistinguishable from anything human.
  • Then came the monetization lockdowns - reduced reach, visibility decay, shadowbans for stepping out of line.
  • Now? Even job seekers can’t break through the noise. The whole point of the network, talent and opportunity, is jammed by the AI slop flood.

You used to get seen. Now you need to pay, post daily, or pander to the algorithm gods just to stay visible.

The New Social Trust Crisis

Here’s the uncomfortable truth: Nobody trusts what they see anymore.

Is that CEO update real, or ChatGPT with a personal touch? Is that article thoughtful, or an AI prompt tuned for virality? Is that job offer legit, or another scam wrapped in corporate branding?

The platform that was built on professional reputation is now infected with reputational rot.

LinkedIn was supposed to be the last safe zone - the grown-up network. Now it’s just another content battlefield, and trust was the first casualty.


So What Comes After?

Something is coming. It has to.

And it won’t look like LinkedIn 2.0. It’ll look like something entirely different - built on real-time trust, verified identity, reputation integrity, and zero-bullshit connections.

Here’s what the post-LinkedIn future will demand:

🔒 Decentralized Identity Your credibility isn’t locked in a platform. It’s portable, blockchain-anchored, and verifiable across networks.

🤝 Reputation as a Protocol Think GitHub meets LinkedIn. Your contributions, endorsements, and verifiable outcomes build your score - not likes or bots.

📡 Signal-Only Networks AI will flood every platform with noise. The winner will filter for signal. Verified conversations. Peer-reviewed insights. Zero clickbait.

💼 Opportunity Marketplaces, Not Newsfeeds Nobody wants to scroll anymore. They want to match. Talent → opportunity → trust-based transaction. No middle layer.

📵 AI-Free Zones There will be havens - digital retreats where content is guaranteed human-authored. Think of it as the “organic” label for the professional internet.


The Real Question Isn’t If LinkedIn Collapses. It’s what you’re building for when it does.

Because the flood is coming. Actually, it's already here. And the professionals who will thrive in this new era aren’t the ones farming likes… They're the ones building new foundations for trust, proof, and purpose.

So go ahead. Keep posting into the void. Or start preparing for the next professional renaissance.

Your network is about to be rebooted.

I’m kind of amazed how little LI has invested over last few years in optimizing user experience. Given all the advancements in Outlook and how it’s able to filter emails etc. you’d figure they would add some of that functionality to LI at least. I’m not even talking about basic items where you can straight up pretend to be president of some company with 0 followers and spam people to no end. Would be interesting if anything comes out that can potentially replace it but I’m thinking it will end up being more fragmentation and smaller reach (whether that’s a bad thing though is debatable).

Sergey, this last couple of years LI has tanked. Always room for a new social space, all you have to do is get 50 of your closest to seed it, sell some FOMO, push some brags on linkedin and ... haha! I jest. Seriously though, linkedin is open to disruption and relevance replacement. I mean, I could do it, but... have a couple of client project commitments right now :)
