Magento and Adobe - my initial thought

Magento and Adobe - my initial thought

It caught everybody on surprise. Yes, this is not something that has been communicated to inner circle prior to yesterday. First of all, of course, congratulations to the Magento and the team. It is something to be proud of and our track record has proven that Magento continues to be one of the desirable platforms. For enterprise customers, this is a big win. Adobe through Experience Manager has invested a lot of tools and cloud-based platform that helps enterprise merchants to do data-based driven commerce. Combine that with the robust e-commerce platform such as Magento, this will bring tremendous synergy that brings Enterprise merchants to the next level; a data-driven customer journey's based commerce platform. As a matter of fact, Adobe has do POC in the last one year or so with its implementation of Magento as headless platform integrated deeply into Adobe Experience Manager. The combination of the two opens up a lot of more exciting possibilities.

Now the questions are more what happens with the open-source side of the world. As we know, one of the key success of Magento is because of the rich-community-driven that helps to develop Magento to where it is right now. From technology partner, community engineer, event organizer around the world, Magento community brought a significant value to Magento itself. This allows success stories such as Magento as B2B platform even before there are any core B2B functions in Magento itself. The whole culture of able to have Enterprise-grade value to merchants and at the same time it is open source to everyone, it is a very difficult culture to maintain. The early commitments from both sides are promising. Both Adobe and Magento. We (Magento Community Leaders) just had a video conference call with Magento management yesterday and from Magento, we had a full commitment from them that as a platform, Magento will still be community-driven as it is right now.

Of course, time will tell, we are excited but at the same time, we will continue to monitor the progress as it unfolds. My personal hope is that Adobe would have learned from the past when it took over Macromedia, and this merger would not become like that (read: what happened to ColdFusion, Flash, etc). In the meanwhile, we are with high hope that this will brings us all to the greater next level. Looking forward to this marriage. Congratulations once again to Magento and Adobe.

Adobe recently shut down Business Catalyst which was a hosted solution, created significant impact and panic for business who were using that platform - https://smallbiztrends.com/2018/04/adobe-business-catalyst.html Very strange they made this deal as it does not come across as their forte to be able to run such platform shows.  We wish for the best and prepare for all situations to come.  Cheers,
