Making The Seafood Expo Global Count! 7 Networking Strategies to Walk Away with Real Value
Every spring, Barcelona becomes the beating heart of the global seafood industry. Since its move to Spain, Seafood Expo Global / Seafood Processing Global has grown into the largest seafood trade event in the world, attracting thousands of professionals from every link in the seafood value chain. In 2024, the event broke records again, drawing more attendees and exhibitors than ever before; and for good reason.
This isn’t just a trade show. It’s where deals are made, partnerships are formed, trends are revealed, and innovations are launched. But the true value of the Expo doesn’t lie in the booths alone, it’s in the conversations that happen in the aisles, over coffee, and between sessions.
Networking at Seafood Expo Global can shape careers, spark collaborations, and unlock new markets, if you know how to navigate it. In a sea of opportunity, having a clear strategy makes the difference between blending in and breaking through. Whether you're a seasoned executive or first-time attendee, this guide will help you make the most of your time on the floor and walk away with more than just a badge and a bag of brochures.
At FishPros Network, we're all about connecting people, purpose, and opportunity within the seafood, aquaculture, and blue economy space. Here's how to make the most of your time on the ground.
1. Prepare With Purpose
Don’t just wander the floor aimlessly. Take time before the event to research: Which companies and booths will be present, Who you want to meet (and why) and Which sessions align with your goals.
Have a short list of target connections, and if possible, send a LinkedIn message or email before the show to ask if they’ll be attending.
2. Craft Your Micro-Pitch
This isn’t about having a rehearsed elevator speech. It’s about clarity. In 1-2 sentences, be able to articulate: What you do, Who you help (or serve) and What you’re looking for.
Example: “I work with seafood and aquaculture companies to help them build strong teams, elevate their professional brand, and connect with the right talent across the industry. I’m currently looking to support companies that are growing, innovating, or rethinking how they recruit and retain talent.”
3. Ask Smart Questions
Networking isn’t just about being heard, it’s about being curious. People remember thoughtful conversations. Try these:
· “What trends are you most excited (or concerned) about this year?”
· “What has hiring or team development looked like for your company lately?”
· “What markets are showing the most promise for you in 2025?”
4. Follow Up That Day
If you have a great conversation, don’t wait. Send a quick LinkedIn message or email that evening: Mention something specific you discussed, Thank them for their time and Offer to reconnect after the show.
5. Don’t Skip the Small Booths
Sure, the major players are important, but don’t overlook smaller booths. Often, startups, innovators, and niche service providers are more open to conversations, partnerships, and fresh ideas.
6. Be Human First
Trade shows can feel like business speed dating. But people remember authenticity. Be personable. Share your story. Ask about theirs.
7. Reflect + Reach Out Post-Show
After the event, take 30 minutes to: Review who you met, Make a short list of people to follow up with and Post a quick reflection on LinkedIn (tag a few folks if appropriate). It’s a great way to show engagement, gratitude, and stay top-of-mind.

4moNice tips Leah Williams Stoker thanks for sharing! Having attended SENA and SEG for many years, in my experience teams need direction ahead of time on how to approach this effectively. As you point out. I also suggest setting specific dates, locations and times for appointments in advance. Folks get busy. Next thing you know you don't get to connect. And then afterward - being sure to follow up (as in one of your suggestions). A lot of people, surprisingly, 😯 fail to do so. For these important events, which are also costly, having a strategy for ROI, including strengthening relationships, is imperative. Thanks again!
