Meet the #facesofatai: Sophia Bond (US)

The #facesofatai series is a spotlight where we introduce you to the individuals who make atai unique. This week, we're shining the light on Sophia Bond, our Executive Assistant based in the US. As you delve into her story, you'll discover the drive, passion, and commitment she brings to atai every day. Join us as we uncover the story behind one of the many #facesofatai.

What inspired you to join atai?

From an early age, I've always been extremely passionate about pursuing a career that aligns with my desire to assist in improving humanity. In searching for a career that would satisfy this craving, I started as a pre-med student. This path was rewarding, but I still felt something was missing. Then, about halfway through college, I stumbled upon an immensely inspiring psychology lecture that quickly shifted my focus toward a career in mental health. After graduating, I embarked on my own mental health journey, which led me to discover different holistic healing approaches, such as psychedelics for mental health. After finding what felt like the golden ticket, I was determined to find a job within this rapidly emerging industry. I aspired to work for a company pioneering the development of these highly effective treatments and was fortunate enough to discover atai—a company doing just that.

Can you describe your role at atai?

I’m the Executive Assistant to our Chief Medical Officer and Chief Business Officer. This means I assist with the organization and logistical planning of their schedules. I also contribute to various company-wide projects and support the business and clinical development sectors daily.

How does the company culture at atai align with your personal values and aspirations?

atai's culture aligns with my values. atai allows each employee to nurture new skills and grow within their role. Ever since I started at atai, I've been given multiple opportunities to challenge myself on new projects and encourage my many curiosities about mental health and psychedelics' role in this domain.

What sets atai apart from other organizations you have worked for, and why do you choose to stay?

It might sound clichéd, but one of the main things I cherish most about atai is the people. I've never worked for a company that excels so well in creating a uniquely warm and inclusive work environment, striking the perfect balance between hard work and genuine relationships. Working alongside such an intelligent group of individuals who are always eager to collaborate and ensure each person feels valued is incredibly inspiring. Each workday is filled with smiles and laughter, which is the icing on the cake for why I choose to stay at atai.

What personal passion project are you working on outside of work?

Outside of my role at atai, I'm deeply passionate about furthering my education in the mental health field. I'm currently halfway through my Masters in mental health counseling, aspiring to become a psychedelic-assisted psychotherapist.

Beyond my professional and academic pursuits, I relish connecting with friends, cooking, reading, practicing yoga and pilates, traveling, and exploring the myriad wonders this beautiful world offers.
