Meet the team: Sharon Sims
- My role at Moneytech is... Head of Operational Risk and Compliance
- I joined Moneytech because... It is a small company with a growth agenda and a plan to do things differently, making a real difference in how we help our customers.
- A day in the life: My typical day at work involves... No two days are the same for me but generally involve coordination of risk committees, review and update of policies and frameworks, 2nd line oversight of the business, keeping abreast of legislative changes impacting the finance industry, establishing training courses, implementing change and raising cultural awareness of the benefit of good risk management practices.
- The most fun part of my role is... Working on frameworks and with teams of people across the business that are destined to make Moneytech a success, every day brings new challenges and more opportunities to learn.
- When I am not working, I am... being a grandmother to my two grand babies, camping, travelling, cooking, cake decorating, studying my family history, studying homeopathy and working on preserving our three wombat species. A passion I have had since high school for critters that are industrious, determined, tenacious and resourceful; that dig below the surface and stand their ground all the while having an aptitude for play and knowing when to stop and smelling roses. No wonder they call a group of wombats a wisdom of wombats!
- Something I am planning to do that I have never done... Travel Down the Canning Stock Route, 900 sand dunes across some 1,700 km of the Gibson, Great Sandy and Tanami Deserts. A cattle stock route, commissioned in 1911 to drive cattle along the 51 wells in the desert from Halls Creek to Wiluna in Western Australia.
- If I were to write a book about myself, I would name it... Hope is not a strategy and success is not an accident.
- If I had one superpower it would be... Linguistics I would love to be fluent in every modern and historic language.
- Some words of wisdom from me if you've made it this far... Love and appreciate every day. The Latin saying of Memento Mori is always worth remembering.
