Introducing AFEM’s New Member Feature Series

At AFEM, our strength lies in our global community of innovators, creators, and industry leaders who are shaping the future of electronic music. With that in mind, we’re excited to launch our new monthly Member Feature series, spotlighting the incredible individuals and businesses driving progress in our industry. Each month, we’ll highlight an AFEM member, sharing their insights, experiences, and perspectives on key industry trends.

To kick off the series, we’re featuring Mandy Salem-Aubry Music Services, founded by Mandy Salem-Aubry, a specialist in music publishing infrastructure, catalogue management, mentorship, and industry strategy. With a focus on fostering collaboration and driving innovation—particularly in rights management and music tech—Mandy’s work bridges the gap between creators, rightsholders, and emerging solutions that are transforming the industry.

Read on to learn more about Mandy’s work, the trends shaping her strategy, and how she sees the electronic music industry evolving.

1. Name your company and your role.

"I have my own music services company, Mandy Salem-Aubry Music Services. I specialise in music publishing infrastructure & catalogue management, professional network optimisation, mentorship, and consulting for music startups, including support in finding clients & investors. I curate and moderate industry panels, and, for the second year, I am Conference Programme Coordinator for Athens Music Week, working with the team to shape its programming and establish it as a key industry platform."

2. Share a milestone or achievement for which your company is particularly proud.

"I am proud that the network of clients and collaborators I work with is growing deliberately and strategically, with partnerships that align to foster collaboration and mutual benefit. As a freelancer, I optimise these connections to create win-win situations. By working with clients across different channels, I can often align their needs, helping them collaborate and creating opportunities that benefit everyone involved."

3. Name one trend in electronic music that is shaping your current business strategy.

"The increasing focus on transparency and efficiency in rights management is a key trend shaping my current business strategy, particularly within the electronic music industry. Electronic music requires innovative solutions to track and report usage accurately. Tools like Vollou and Claimy address these specific needs. Vollou’s agnostic music recognition technology (MRT) provides a neutral and precise system for monitoring and reporting music usage. Claimy automates the tracking of music usage and the claiming of royalties. My work with Vollou and Claimy directly contributes to advancing these critical solutions for the electronic music community."

4. Does your company collaborate with other industry stakeholders to drive growth and opportunities within the electronic music community? And if so, how and who?

"I work with various industry stakeholders, reflecting the strength of my holistic freelance approach. My clients include technology innovators, rightsholders, educators, and creators within the electronic music ecosystem. I collaborate with startups like Submix, using my global network to support their reach, adoption, and investment. I also mentor through programmes such as Keychange and Help Musicians and contribute to education by working with institutions that train future music professionals. I regularly participate in industry events which provide opportunities to connect stakeholders and contribute to discussions that benefit my clients and the wider community."

5. What does it mean for you to be a member of AFEM?

"I have known AFEM for many years and served on its Executive Board in the rightsholder position from 2019 to 2021. Joining as a freelancer in my own right was a deliberate decision. Being a member aligns with my collaborative, win-win approach to freelancing, supporting my business and the broader community as we work to strengthen and help one another."

6. One project, collaboration, or initiative you’re currently working on that you’re particularly excited about.

"A highlight will be seeing some startups I work with move from early investment to the next phase, focusing on go-to-market strategies and adoption within the electronic music community. Many of these startups are addressing critical gaps in the industry’s infrastructure, especially in electronic music, where solutions have often been lacking. Supporting their growth and contributing to meaningful progress in these areas is incredibly rewarding."
