Mould: The Silent Saboteur of Your Brain, Body and Mood

Mould: The Silent Saboteur of Your Brain, Body and Mood

Hey Brain Warriors,

Welcome to the latest edition of GBA Cognitive Mastery!

Let’s talk about something very few doctors mention, most people ignore… …and yet it could be right now messing with your brain, your energy, your immune system, your gut and your mood.

I’m talking about mould. Not the kind on your forgotten Tupperware (though… also ew). I mean the invisible, airborne kind that hides in walls, ceilings, floors, and air vents. The kind that produces toxins that your body absolutely hates but your doctor likely never tested for.

In fact, the IHCAN magazine - July 2025 edition - called it what it truly is:

"The silent epidemic ignored by medicine."

They’re not wrong.

The Reality: It’s Not Just a Bit of Damp

Here’s the thing, mould isn’t just an aesthetic problem. It’s not something you just paint over.

Moulds release mycotoxins, a chemical compounds that are so small, they float into your bloodstream when you breathe them in. These can cause:

  • Brain fog
  • Low energy
  • Anxiety or depression
  • Digestive issues
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Chronic sinus infections
  • Weird rashes
  • Sleep problems
  • Food sensitivities that came out of nowhere

Basically, if you feel like your body is falling apart but your blood tests are “normal,” you might be living in a very toxic environment without knowing it.

Real Story: From Fatigue to “Oh. It Was the House then...”

At the end of last year I worked with a client, let’s call him James. Mid-40s. Smart. Fit(ish). But for months, he’d been waking up tired, forgetting basic things, and getting weird flare-ups after every meal.

He thought it was stress. Then thought it was gluten. Then maybe parasites.

Turns out it was mould in the bedroom wall, hidden behind a wardrobe. Once removed and remediated, his gut calmed down, sleep returned, and he stopped saying “Sorry, what was I saying?” every ten minutes.

How did we find out? Answer below.

Why This Isn’t on Your Doctor’s Radar

Traditional medicine rarely screens for mould or mycotoxins unless you ask specifically and even then, many GPs will look at you like you’ve been watching too much YouTube.

But functional testing can detect exposure levels, inflammation markers, and show how well your detox systems are coping. You might not know this but most people aren’t detoxing well at all. Especially if their gut is compromised or their nutrient stores are low.

What to Watch For

Here are some subtle (but serious) signs that you might be dealing with mould toxicity:

  • You feel better when you’re away from home for a few days
  • Brain fog that no supplement seems to fix
  • Allergies that appear “out of nowhere” (this happened to us, hence the knowledge)
  • Shortness of breath or sinus congestion indoors
  • A persistent cough with no real explanation
  • You feel inflamed all the time, even on a clean diet

You’re not being “too sensitive.” Your body will always do its best to alert you, listen to it.

What You Can Do

  1. Don’t ignore weird symptoms. Especially if they flare at home or work.
  2. Check your space. Behind furniture, under sinks, around windows.
  3. Get tested. Not just your environment, but your body. I use specific tests to detect mould toxins and inflammatory load in the nervous system.
  4. Support detox pathways. That includes liver, lymph, gut, and yes, even your sweat glands. The sauna isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity.

Final Thought

If you’ve tried everything, diet, supplements, exercise, and still feel off… You might not need another protocol. You might just need to check your walls.

Mould is silent. But your symptoms are loud for a very good reason.

Book a call. Let’s talk. You don’t need to live in fog and fatigue.

Until next time, Keep those neurones firing — and your walls dry.
