My First Dollar

I’m six weeks into the adventure of starting my own consulting company and am pleased to have completed my first Product Positioning and Market Strategy engagement with the team at Hive Learning.

Client: Hive Learning is an innovative, modular corporate skills academy that does a great job of integrating social and peer-to-peer learning and sharing of best practices.  Learners also get effective and ongoing AI support products that increase skill mastery. Hive Learning’s approach to training isn’t just a point in time; it’s built to improve employee mastery levels on an ongoing basis.

Goal: Hive Learning's initial success came in their U.K.-based home market, and over the last five years, they’ve grown substantially in the U.S. market. Hive Learning is shifting their focus to target new markets and wanted to gain some perspective, challenge assumptions, and reach a consensus on how best to grow in this admittedly crowded market.

Engagement: The engagement was scheduled over four days and included a full day of interactive discussions with Hive Learning’s Marketing, Sales, Customer Experience, Product Management, and Partnerships teams. The next two days were dedicated to evaluation, clarifying Q&A, and preparation for a final half-day interactive discussion of the findings and suggestions.

Results: At a high level, we helped drive better top-to-bottom alignment around strategy, marketing, and product. We identified ways to grow without degrading their much-loved client success efforts. We also identified key success stories (with proof!) that could be the building blocks of their U.S. market story. Finally, we delivered a formal write-up of 17 actionable next steps for the Hive Learning team as they shift their focus and expand their target markets in the U.S. market.
