Navigating the DZS Transition: Ensuring Stability and Support for Service Providers

The recent Chapter 7 filing of DZS has left many service providers facing uncertainty. With questions around ongoing product availability, technical support, and long-term stability, it's crucial to have a reliable partner who can step in with seamless solutions.

At Comtrend, we recognize the challenges that come with unexpected industry changes. That’s why we are committed to providing service providers with the stability, supply, and support they need to maintain and grow their networks.

The Immediate Challenge: Uncertain Supply and Support

DZS’s closure raises concerns about the future availability of their ONTs, gateways, and other essential networking equipment. Service providers who have built their infrastructure around these products are now left wondering:

  • Will firmware updates and technical support continue?
  • How long will inventory last?
  • What happens when replacement units are needed?

With no clear answers, service providers need to start planning for a transition now.

Comtrend: A Trusted Alternative

Comtrend is stepping in with proven, interoperable solutions to help providers navigate this transition smoothly. Our product portfolio is designed to support both legacy replacements and future network expansions.

1. Interoperable ONTs Built for Today and Tomorrow

Comtrend’s ONTs are designed for seamless integration into existing networks, including those utilizing OpenPON OLTs from Ciena, Harmonic, and other major vendors. Our solutions offer a reliable, future-proof alternative for GPON, XGS-PON, and Active Ethernet deployments.

2. Ethernet Gateways to Replace Legacy Units

For providers relying on DZS gateways, Comtrend offers a broad lineup of Ethernet Gateways, including Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 solutions that ensure superior performance and longevity.

3. Long-Term Availability and U.S.-Based Support

One of the biggest challenges of the DZS transition is the potential loss of support services. Comtrend offers active U.S.-based technical support and ensures product availability to prevent service disruptions. Our long-term commitment to the market means providers can count on stability and consistent supply.

The number of DZS refugees who we have heard about who are scrambling is a little crazy. One partner of ours who had $11M of DZS product on their shelf sold $7M of it in 2 days. We are already hearing that the supply in the market has dried up. Whether you picked up the last of that product or missed out, now is the time to think about what to do going forward. Furthermore, anyone in a closed environment should take this as a warning how being in a closed ecosystem is risky, and can end up being very expensive. Whether the company you are buying from gets acquired, has a supply issue, or jacks up their price, you will be subject to those market forces. Vendor flexibility and an open ecosystem means you can pivot due to supply, price or features.
