Key Success Factors for Technical Project Excellence

In the previous article, we briefly considered the question of which areas of Due Diligence are most relevant when investing in technology projects. In this article we will talk more about processes in technology projects. For example, we will consider two options: a young startup consisting of enthusiasts and an investment project within a mature technology company that has decided to invest in the development of its product. 

In the first case, it should be soberly realized that there are usually no mature and established processes within a startup. This means low operational efficiency of the team and high burnout risks associated with overtime and excessive involvement in the process. There are various reasons for this, as a rule they are related to either inexperience or tight development timelines caused by lack of funding or external factors.

In the case of a mature company, the situation may be the opposite. It may have excellent software, specialists, processes and regulations, but at the same time such a management vertical for coordinating decisions, which makes the development process slow and inert. This leads to loss of time for making even elementary decisions, which also negatively affects the development process and the timing of the product launch into the market.

Thus, the right organizational scheme and framework for team work is critical to the success of the project. The criteria determining the choice will be not only the size of the team and the project domain, but also the market for which the product will be developed, the number of cross-cultural teams, their geographical location and much more.

The challenge here is not to use a more flexible template, but to correctly understand and describe the conditions that will be necessary for the PROJECT to pass successfully at least the first phases. And a team is just one of the conditions that the project needs to fulfill....
