She shared advice for nurses and discussed the impact of technology on healthcare.

1. Understanding Nursing Burnout

Nursing burnout is a growing concern, especially in the United States. In my interview, Dr. Farah Laurent sheds light on the harsh realities nurses encounter. Nurses experience immense pressure, long hours, and the emotional toll, especially in high-stress environments like the emergency room. Differences in healthcare structures, varying regulations, and administrative demands can create additional burdens for nurses. They feel unsupported, and many quit as a result of feeling burnout.

One in five nurses will leave the profession in their first year. - Dr. Farah Laurent

Nurses are passionate about providing the best care, but the complexities of the healthcare system can be overwhelming. "In the United States, the orientation structure differs greatly from healthcare in Canada. If you're a brand new nurse, you should really have about at least 12 weeks of orientation." - Dr. Farah Laurent.

Beyond the initial orientation, nurses need to continue their professional development through ongoing education and training, attending workshops, and staying updated on best practices in nursing.

2. Impact of Technology on Nursing Care:

Technology has transformed healthcare, enhancing efficiency and precision. Dr. The shift from paper charting to EMRs has improved the coordination of patient care by allowing healthcare professionals to access real-time updates of vital signs and patient health history. This advancement reduces redundancy in information gathering and promotes more efficient and accurate healthcare delivery. With the ever-changing technologies, nurses must adapt to these technological advancements through continuous training and education.
