Office time, working time. Hm...
To many, working means sitting at a desk for eight hours a day, or even always when the boss is in the office.
We have become trained to equate working with doing.
Thus, the ‘doing’ has value — that is what we are paid for, and that is what we want to see.
Clock in when you come to work. Clock out when you are leaving.
Being physically present is mandatory; mental engagement is optional.
We celebrate doing even if it is doing nothing when it looks like it is working.
What does not look like working?
Thinking.
Thinking sometimes requires doing nothing.
Sometimes, it requires walking and being alone.
Many times, Thinking requires being outside the workplace.
We all say we want thinkers. We rarely give anyone the time to think.
The best ideas for our work come from our free time – it happens to me all the time.
Particularly in the shower 😊
Some people cannot detach themselves from their work. I am one of them. I don’t believe in work-life balance; I believe in life with a significant part called work. I think that self-fulfillment cannot be stretched to 8 hours a day.
