One very big change

One very big change

"I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination."

Jimmy Dean

It's amazing what opportunities can cross your path if you are prepared to open your mind, let go of your preconceptions and trust the universe.

This is exactly what I did last year when I finally admitted that I had moved beyond the desire to run my marketing agency; Dragonfly Marketing any longer.

After 16 years, I was done.

In that 16 years, I achieved so much of what I had set out to achieve. I also failed at achieving some of the things I had set out to achieve.

It was a season, and it was time for it to end.

So, as those of you who read my emails last year would have seen, I started to change direction and transition my focus from marketing to ESG strategy, as making the world a better place is a big passion of mine.

My mother instilled the habits of a 'greenie' into me from the day I was born. In my opinion, there are not enough of us who are prepared to change our habits and face some discomfort to play a bigger game for the planet. It's too easy and too convenient to stick heads in the sand and wait for someone else to fix the climate problem we are facing.I refuse to be one of those people.

However, one thing that running a business has taught me is that social ideologies will always be met with commercial realities.

I know that most business leaders want to do the right thing for the planet, but they also want to ensure that their business is financially sustainable - which actually, is also a big part of the ESG equation.

What I have realised is that to make a big change in the ESG space, I need to make a big change in my career.

As some of you might know, I started part-time as Chief Marketing Officer with an amazing Port Macquarie-grown business Birdon, in October last year. The Founders of Birdon, Jamie and Tammy, were one of my very first clients of Dragonfly Marketing - not for Birdon, but for a charity they run; the Jim Bruce Trust.

Over the years, Jamie and Tammy have built an incredibly successful business, that is now global and employs more than 550 people. After developing their marketing strategy, I could see what an incredible opportunity this role and working with this team is. And so in just over a week, I will be joining the team full-time.

And I can't tell you how energised I am by this move. As a result, I will be closing down Dragonfly Marketing and Jane Hillsdon Consulting.

It's been an incredible journey. I have learnt so much and worked with the most inspiring, funny, smart and kind people over the past 17 years.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for riding this wave with me and for your loyalty and support along the way. I will never forget you, and all that you have contributed to my professional and personal life.

I look forward to keeping in touch with you all here on LinkedIn.
