Para-Talent Show in Mauritius - A Giant Leap Forward

Para-Talent Show in Mauritius - A Giant Leap Forward

Simply put, breathtakingly Wow. The Para-Talent Show organised and hosted by the Flame of Phoenix led by Miss Seesurrun Dharshini Anishta and Global Rainbow Foundation led by Professor Armoogum Parsuramen in Mauritius, more precisely at Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix on Sunday 10th December 2017 for children with disabilities was an extraordinary para-talent show, with extraordinary children and extraordinary performance. The para-talent show has clearly demonstrated that it is indeed all about passion, belief, support, perseverance and ability.

The para-talent was blessed by some great sponsorship, exemplar and helpful judges and a plethora of key personalities alongside the President of the Republic of Mauritius (Mrs Ameenah Gurib Fakim) and the Vice President of the Republic of Mauritius (Mr Vyapoory Paramasivum Pillay). Undoubtedly, it was a groundbreaking para-talent show, an eye-opener for many, the first of its kind and a truly commendable feat.

The performance of each participant was sensational, motivational, emotional, and equally inspiring and moving with stories spanning across all walks of life. Each participant came out of their comfort zone paired with sheer determination, dedication, strength and pure grit to showcase their talents to the world.

The audience was scintillating and responded to the participants with complete admiration and awe. We have no doubt whatsoever that these young enthusiastic, full of life, talented, gifted and bright children will go on to bigger and better things in life with the support of their parents and become global ambassadors for Mauritius.

The key message we took away from the para-talent show was the need to keep educating, informing, encouraging and inspiring the existing and next generation of globally responsible professionals when it comes to people with disabilities and inclusion.

Miss Dharshini Anishta Seesurrun, Founder and President of the Flame of Phoenix stated “let’s start with simple changes on a daily basis to assist in removing barriers for children with disabilities, fighting fervently for their rights, provide them with latest assistive technologies for further enhanced their professional career but more importantly, a duty that everybody has, is to protect them from negative societal influence”

Yes, the challenges are immense, so are the opportunities. Above all else, it is paramount that children with disabilities can move freely and independently. It is only through inclusive ambassadors, sponsorship, government support and policies, non-governmental organisations, human ingenuity and a culture of inclusion that we can help create an inclusive society. Young people are instrumental in changing the landscape of inclusion in Mauritius and no doubt, the first para-talent show in Mauritius is a gigantic leap forward.

Last but my no means least, Gargantuan Thank You to All for making the para-talent show a resounding success. Have an amazing Christmas and Happy New Year 2018 with family and friends !
