Pause the Agenda and Create the Leadership Moment
Hey Leader,
Last week, I met a leadership team from an MSME company. They were well-prepared— They had numbers, charts, reports, sales funnels, delivery updates… They had everything ready to show me.
As I sat down with them, they started sharing: “Our quarterly sales were this…” “We’re improving conversion rates…” “We’ve built a better delivery model…”
It was all going great.
But then I asked one simple question: “How is your team feeling right now?”
Suddenly, there was silence in the room.
They looked at each other. A few leaders seemed confused. One of the functional heads said, “Maybe… they’re feeling stressed. We’re always chasing targets.”
Another leader said, “Our team doesn’t even know why we are doing all this. What’s the bigger purpose?”
Someone else added quietly, “I’m worried... our team feels burned out. Like they have no energy left at the end of the day.”
And you know what?
👉 That one question was not even part of the meeting agenda.
👉 But that question changed the direction of the whole conversation.
That day, I was reminded again— Leadership is not just about targets, data, or metrics. It’s also about meaning. About understanding people. And giving them a reason to care again.
So I asked them to do one more thing: “Can you take 5 minutes and note down 2-3 small wins your team had recently? Any progress, any effort, no matter how small.”
They started writing quietly. And then something amazing happened.
People started smiling. They began sharing their wins: — We got a repeat client. — Our new team member did really well. — A process we were stuck on is finally working.
💡 These wins were small. But they were real. And they reminded the team of something powerful: “We’re not just busy—we are moving forward.”
A Simple Insight for Every Leader:
Sometimes, the team just needs a pause. Not a break from work, but a moment to feel seen and heard.
Ask your team:
👉 “How are you feeling?”
👉 “What small win did you have this week?”
👉 “Where do you see your energy going right now?”
Because performance and well-being go hand in hand. And leadership is not just about pushing harder—it’s also about connecting deeper.
💬 A Question for You:
When was the last time you paused the agenda and truly checked in with your team?
