People Management: An Art Form Honed Over 15 Years
Having spent over 15 years in Human Resources, I’ve had the privilege of encountering a diverse array of personalities and behaviors. Each interaction has shaped my approach to people management, which I believe is truly an art.
Throughout my career, I’ve been dedicated to looking beyond resumes and interviews to see the true potential of candidates. Building strong relationships with hiring managers has allowed me to advocate for those whose talents might not be immediately apparent. My instincts have often proven correct—candidates I’ve championed have thrived in their roles, and many remain close to my heart even after years.
Yet, the role of HR is often misunderstood. Common misconceptions—like the belief that HR has little to do or that we should remain detached—are frequent. Some people even mock the profession, unaware of the nuanced work that goes on behind the scenes. There’s also a misconception that HR should be distant and unapproachable. I firmly disagree. To me, HR is about connecting with people on a human level and offering support and understanding.
Despite the challenges and occasional misunderstandings, I take great pride in my work. Managing people and helping them succeed is incredibly fulfilling. The relationships I’ve built and the impact I’ve had on countless careers make every effort worthwhile. Here’s to the art of people management—a craft I am passionate about and dedicated to mastering.
