Photographing the Hudson Valley - Thank you, Grant Scully
It wasn't that long ago that we said goodbye to Ed Han , a man that put so much of his time and energy into supporting job seekers. Whether you knew him or not you couldn't help but be moved by the thoughts and feelings others had towards him. Today I'm thinking of another individual, one that I did not know personally. One that I only became aware of through a Facebook group. This individual is someone that I know absolutely nothing about, yet when I learned of his passing the other week, I couldn't help but feel a sadness over our loss, and the loss that his family is experiencing. Let me introduce you to Grant Scully.
Who Is Grant Scully?
To answer that, let me provide some background and context. Like many of you that may have Facebook accounts we have the ability to join groups. Since I'm from upstate NY (90 miles north of NYC) I joined a "Hudson Valley" group. There are the usual contributors - people asking about restaurants, places to live, sharing what they did on the weekend, etc. There are also people that share pictures. Grant Scully was one of those people. His pictures were incredible. I always looked forward to whatever he had to share because it was unique, impressive, but most of all you felt the love he had for the Hudson Valley when you looked at his pictures.
Here is a link to his obituary, which will provide some of the standard information about the man.
"What was it about him that affected you so much?"
I have asked myself that question many times. Here are some of the answers - The loss of someone that seemed to be visible day in and day out and that you counted on for supplying pictures on a frequent basis. A person that was always sharing pictures, and had a love for a place that is near and dear to me. A person that seemed to be selfless, and I know that's ridiculous since I didn't even know the person, but you know that we all have an online presence - our "brand", if you will, and I respected Grant Scully's "brand". He was up at all times of the day to be able to capture a moment in time, then share it with thousands of people that, like me, looked forward to seeing what he was going to come up with.
But, enough words. We accept that "every picture tells a story", so I've selected a dozen images from this past year from Grant Scully's postings on the Hudson Valley Facebook group page. Let your mind take you to a pleasant place as you view these images:
Thanks for indulging me.
All the best,
Dave
