Pivotal Lessons

Today, I'm reminded of the pivotal moments that have shaped my path and molded me into the person I am today. It all started in grade six when my family faced a significant upheaval, leading us to embark on a journey filled with both trials and triumphs.

Driven by my mother's courage and leadership, we packed our belongings into garbage bags and boxes, setting off for Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Our arrival at a women's shelter marked the beginning of a period of uncertainty, but it also provided us with safety and stability during challenging times. Eventually, my grandmother, my Kookum, extended her arms and welcomed us into her home in Sweetgrass First Nation, where invaluable lessons awaited.

My Kookum was not just a grandmother; she was a beacon of wisdom and guidance. Through her teachings, I learned about the power of forgiveness, the significance of empathy, and the impact of our words on others. Her lessons resonated deeply with me, shaping my interactions and fueling my journey as a motivational speaker.

Navigating through life, I encountered numerous obstacles that tested my resilience. Yet, with the support of my Kookum's teachings and the encouragement of those around me, I persevered. I learned the importance of unity and collaboration, recognizing the value of breaking down barriers and fostering connections within communities.

Today, as I share my story with audiences around the world, I am reminded of the journey that led me here. It is a journey defined by perseverance, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to positive change. Through my words and actions, I aspire to inspire others to overcome their own challenges and pursue their dreams.

In embracing resilience, I have discovered the remarkable strength of the human spirit—the ability to rise above adversity and emerge stronger than before. As I continue on this path, I am filled with gratitude for the lessons learned and the opportunities that lie ahead.
