The Power Of Appreciation
Yesterday, in my colony, I saw an old lady walking alongside a road with the help of a stick. She was too old to walk, even barely able to see, I assume. But she was not alone, though. Her little granddaughter continuously appreciated her for completing her daily walking goal. Without her appreciation, she could barely walk 50 meters, and now she is able to walk almost 200 meters. This is the power of appreciation.
Imagine waking up at 6:30 every day, diving into your morning routine—preparing breakfast or whipping up a sabji for yourself or your loved ones; or maybe rising at 7, making your daily visit to the sabji mandi, returning with fresh veggies, cooking lunch, and getting ready for work, must make you feel monotonous; suddenly someone whispers, “Wow, you are good cook, or compliments you with a warm smile and highlights you always pick the freshest veggies!” That small appreciation must shift your mood—suddenly, your efforts feel seen, your routine feels lighter, and your motivation quietly sparks back to life. It's these tiny, thoughtful moments that make the everyday grind a little more beautiful. I am right! right?
This is how the appreciation talk! It not only makes everyone happy, but also remove the materialistic feeling for your loved ones.
How does the Appreciation make us Happy, even happier and even the happiest!
We can easily recall the hidden power of saying 'Thank you' or 'Well done'. Have you ever noticed our whole mood can shift after listening to just one sentence, like, "You did a great job, or You did very well, or Yesterday's meal was amazing; you handled the situation smoothly, bravo?"
I realize, however, that our circumstances and socioeconomic status may not change, but we do. We go the extra mile of energy to perform our work more satisfactorily. Even bad news can't confuse us from a state of encouragement and happiness.
That's the magic of appreciation. It is more than politeness. We can consider it emotional fuel in our daily monotonous lives.
Here are some innovative ways of cultivating gratitude regularly.
Write a Thank You note, even if it is not needed;
A few impressive words are all it takes. A "Thank you" or a "Well done" on a sticky note can spark a smile, lift a spirit, and ignite a new wave of motivation. It's amazing how a simple gesture of gratitude can become someone's silent push to keep going and keep shining.
Let's make it a ritual—send at least one gratitude note a month. It can be handwritten, typed, or even a voice message—it doesn't matter. What matters is the thought behind it.
And don't forget yourself. Yes, you. Now and then, write a note acknowledging your growth, your effort, and your quiet wins.
A thoughtful sentence for yourself can be more refreshing than coffee on a Monday morning. In a constantly-rushing world, your few seconds of self-appreciation may become your favorite moment of the day.
Count Your Blessings
Yes, you know, your mother or wife is doing the household work; it is her work, right? As yours is going to the office, attending an event, and making a daily schedule, but No, it is not; you or even she are bound to attend to the daily chores, and it has become our habit.
So, what if your boss appreciates you for your daily work? It is fantastic, isn't it? The same things happen to wives or other family members. Providing affluent blessings to our friends or family members makes them more cheerful and happy.
Welcome Mindfulness
Imagine this: You are repeating the same typical work every day. Likewise, it's 6:30 AM. The world is still yawning, but you're already in the kitchen, standing over the same cutting board, repeating the same ritual—slice apples and drop them into two tiffin boxes. You barely care about the thin or thick slices or whether the seeds sneak in. It's mechanical and monotonous. You're on autopilot.
What if someone just came to you and cheered you up with a random word like, "Hey, you cut those well," or maybe just a soft, "Thank you." That's it. No big speech, no grand applause—just a moment of presence. It would bring some mindfulness to my daily work.
Appreciation sparks joy. It activates the brain's reward system, releasing dopamine—the same chemical that makes us feel good when we laugh, love, or achieve something. Appreciation builds confidence, reduces stress, and deepens connections between people.
Here's the coolest part—it's contagious;
When you feel appreciated, you're more likely to respect others. It starts a ripple effect of positivity, creating spaces where kindness thrives, and people shine brighter. Appreciation is a pause button in a world that moves fast and often forgets the little things. A warm spotlight. A gentle reminder that your presence has a purpose. So whether you're giving it or receiving it, know this—appreciation doesn't cost a thing, but it's worth everything.
