The Power of Relationships in Business

The Power of Relationships in Business

Today’s Tech Talk is a little different — a bit more personal — but it’s a message I feel incredibly passionate about.

I often say I love what I do. And I really mean it. Not in the off-the-cuff "oh yeah, it's alright" way you hear from time to time, but in the "I genuinely wake up excited to make a difference" way. Why? Because at its heart, my career — whether it was fixing someone's printer at the eleventh hour, helping a team move to a secure cloud platform, or developing a cybersecurity strategy — has always been about helping people.

Helping people has always been my why.

From Crawling Under Desks to Crafting Solutions

When I first started in IT over 15 years ago, I was a hands-on technician — crawling under desks, plugging in cables, troubleshooting printers that had seemingly declared war on their users. And while there was a sense of satisfaction in fixing things, it didn’t take me long to realise that I wasn’t just passionate about technology — I was passionate about people.

I loved those moments after a fix when someone would say, “Andy, you’ve saved me — thank you!” It was never just about the kit. It was about how technology could make someone’s day easier, help their business thrive, or take a weight off their shoulders. It was about the connection, the trust, and the partnership.

That’s when I knew: I didn’t want to crawl under desks for the rest of my life — I wanted to be part of something bigger. I wanted to build relationships that lasted, and solve real problems that mattered.

Finding My Forever Home

Fast forward to today — and it’s safe to say I’ve found my professional home at Intercity.

I've worked in various IT businesses over the years, from small family-run firms to fast-paced managed service providers. Every chapter has been a lesson. But at Intercity, for the first time in a long time, I feel part of a team where every single person cares as much as I do.

It’s a team where passion, integrity, and going the extra mile aren’t "nice-to-haves" — they're the standard. We’re not just ticking boxes. We’re building partnerships, shaping futures, and — most importantly — looking after the people behind the businesses we support.

And it’s not just me saying that. Recently, I asked a few of my colleagues if they would mind leaving me a recommendation on LinkedIn. I didn’t give them a script, a nudge, or a hint. I simply asked them to be honest.

Here’s what they said:

Andrew Levine wrote:

“I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Andy Newbrook in the Cloud and Security division, and I can confidently say he is one of the most genuine and consultative professionals I’ve come across.

Charlie McGarry added:

"Delighted to recommend Andy Newbrook, who has been a friend and colleague since he joined Intercity. Andy is an extremely bubbly character who brings a blend of enthusiasm and professionalism to the workplace.

Honestly? Reading these messages hit me right in the heart.

Because this is why I do what I do. Not for commissions. Not for accolades. Not for KPIs. But because building real, trusted, genuine relationships — with my clients, with my colleagues, and with my wider network — matters.

Why Relationships Matter More Than Ever

In today’s fast-moving world, where tech providers are a dime a dozen, and everyone claims to be the best, trust is the ultimate differentiator.

Anyone can sell you a new laptop. Anyone can move your emails to the cloud. Anyone can install cybersecurity software.

But not everyone will care about what happens to your business once the invoice is paid. Not everyone will answer the phone at 6PM on a Friday because you’re facing a crisis. Not everyone will truly understand your goals and challenges and create solutions that help you grow.

Relationships are what make the difference. They build confidence. They create loyalty. They inspire trust. They create partnerships that are measured not just in months, but in years.

A Promise to You

When you work with me — and with Intercity — you’re not just getting another vendor. You’re getting a trusted partner who genuinely cares about your success.

I write these newsletters every three days — not because I have to, but because I want to keep you informed, inspired, and connected. I nurture relationships with my clients because they are people first, businesses second.

If you’re on the lookout for a new technology partner — whether it’s for cybersecurity, cloud solutions, Microsoft services, or just a fresh perspective — let me care for you too.

Give me 30 minutes of your time. Let’s have a coffee (or a virtual one if you prefer). No hard sell. No jargon. Just a genuine conversation about how I can help make your life easier, your business safer, and your technology better.

Thanks for reading this one — it was from the heart.

Until next time,

Andy Newbrook
