This week the PreventionWeb editors present a selection of disaster solutions: how 3D models are providing a better understanding of melting glaciers; how controlled burns can reduce wildfire smoke pollution; and how scientists have measured the tremors from a slow-slip earthquake. Then we have some new risks to consider: the accelerating "precipitation whiplash" effect; how magma movements drove Santorini earthquakes; and how cascading hazards can cause a sequence of disasters. From our DRR Voices blog we have commentary on the importance of trust in early warnings; and a set of principles to redefine our understanding of risk, accelerate awareness of the risks we face, and guide transformative action.

An ethical war is not about revenge, ego, or conquest. It's about protecting the innocent, restoring justice, and resisting oppression—with restraint, accountability, and purpose. It involves self-defense or defense of the vulnerable, waged with dignity, truth, fairness, and mercy: >Defending people from genocide >Resisting tyranny or colonization >Standing up for human rights and divine values, even if it means confronting evil. >These are wars not waged for greed or domination, but to preserve life, liberty, and love. An unethical war is born of greed, fear, ego, arrogance, lust for power, hatred, or control. An Unethical War: It destroys indiscriminately. It manipulates truth. It enslaves, exploits, and violates. It silences the innocent and elevates the corrupt. It’s not about defending truth but dominating others. This includes: Wars for profit or resources. Manipulative psychological warfare. Cyber-attacks on civilians. Religious or racial cleansing. Political wars built on propaganda. These are not battles of righteousness, but of manipulated minds, addicted egos, and spiritually bankrupt agendas.
