Prioritize Yourself This Week

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” — Anne Lamott

This week, I want to remind you of something powerful: you belong on your own list of priorities. It’s easy to get caught up in the endless demands of work, family, and obligations, but if you leave yourself out of that equation, everything else begins to suffer. Leadership isn’t just about serving others, it’s also about leading yourself with care, compassion, and discipline. And that starts with making yourself a priority.

You may feel that taking time for yourself is selfish, but in reality, it’s one of the most selfless acts you can do. When you show up rested, energized, and whole, you give more generously to your team, your loved ones, and your responsibilities. Neglecting yourself, on the other hand, drains your effectiveness and dims your light. A strong leader understands that self-care isn’t indulgence, it’s strategy.

Think about the activities that truly fuel you. For some, it’s the sweat of a good workout; for others, it’s the calm of meditation, the joy of reading, or the creativity of a hobby. Whatever your source of renewal is, schedule it like you would a critical meeting, because it is. By protecting that time, you’re sending a clear message to yourself and to those around you: your well-being matters.

A Leader’s Secret Weapon? Gratitude. Read This Book.

Remember, balance is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. Without it, you risk burnout, frustration, and a decline in your ability to inspire others. With it, you cultivate resilience, clarity, and the kind of presence that makes people want to follow your lead. We cannot pour from an empty cup; but when our cup is full, we can overflow into the lives of others with abundance.

As you move through your week, notice where you’ve been sacrificing your own needs in the name of productivity or service. Then, make a conscious choice to reclaim some of that space. Even small changes, fifteen minutes of journaling, a short walk outside, or simply unplugging for a while, can have a profound impact on your energy and focus.

You deserve this care and attention. Don’t wait until exhaustion forces you to slow down, choose instead to lead from a place of strength and renewal. Prioritize yourself not out of guilt, but out of respect for the leader you are and the leader you are becoming. When you invest in yourself, you model what true, sustainable leadership looks like.

So this week, let’s commit together: to honor our own needs, to nurture our own growth, and to remember that self-care is not separate from leadership, it is the foundation of it. You are worthy of this investment, and the world is better when you show up as your fullest, healthiest, most inspired self.

You matter just as much as the work you do and the people you serve. Too often, we place ourselves at the bottom of the list, thinking that pushing harder and giving more will keep everything running smoothly. But true strength doesn’t come from constant output, it comes from balance. When you take time for rest, exercise, or simply doing something you love, you’re not taking away from your responsibilities, you’re fueling yourself to show up stronger, clearer, and more effective.

Carve out space in your schedule that’s just for you. Protect it the way you would a meeting with your boss or a promise to a loved one, because it’s just as vital. You deserve that care. You deserve that attention. And when you give it to yourself, you’ll find you have even more energy, creativity, and resilience to pour into everything else. Lead yourself well this week, and watch how it transforms the way you lead others.
