Prioritizing What Matters: Balancing Career, Family & Self
In the latest episode of The Struggle Bubble, Craig Surgey and I sit down with a very special guest - Robert Hatta , founder of Ten-X Talent and former exec at Drive Capital. Robert's story of navigating career ambition alongside deeper life priorities really hit home for us in the Struggle Bubble.
Robert shares his journey from small town Ohio to the intoxicating momentum of Stanford and Silicon Valley, later choosing to move back to the Midwest to raise his family and build his career on his own terms. He opens up about the struggle many of us face when misaligned priorities lead us to pour time and energy into work at the expense of relationships and self.
The isolation of the pandemic forced Robert to uncover what really mattered. He took action to reprioritize his family and personal well-being. In a bold move, he and his wife took their kids out of school to travel the world for a year and completely reset. Now he's intentionally shaping his work around being present for his kids' remaining years at home and encouraging them to explore and find their own paths.
As someone who has faced my own challenges with the constant juggling act of career, family, and personal growth, I found Robert's insights enlightening and validating. His experience is an important reminder that it's never too late to reassess what's truly important to us, realign how we spend our time with our deepest values, and design a life that enables us to be ambitious about ALL the things that really matter - at work and beyond.
I highly recommend giving the full episode a listen and I'd love to hear your own experiences and perspectives. How do you balance the many priorities and pressures of work and life? What trade-offs have you made and what really matters most to you?
