Proactiveness: The last thing we seem to prioritize
Why do we wait until things get SO BAD before we decide to do something about them? Think about it---we sometimes wait to get something repaired when it becomes a problem, we want to eat better, but haven’t yet, or the situation at work that hasn’t been addressed is becoming problematic.
Why do we do this? Is it time? Money? We don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings?
We make decisions every day, but do we always make them based on our priorities or the desire to check them off the list? If you woke up EVERY day and prioritized what you wanted to accomplish for your business (or in your role at work), would your results be different?
Let’s put this theory to the test---leadership team member or business owner.
You want to grow your business by offering a great product or service. How do you do that? To start you need great PEOPLE!
So, do you have a line item in your budget for Human Resources? Could you use strategic feedback on raises for staff? Do you have a system to evaluate the team equitably? What about a talent acquisition strategy---recruitment effort, vetting tools, etc.?
What do most people do as they are growing? They figure it out as they GO! If you are hoping it will all just work out, you will have react to whatever problems come your way versus proactively addressing before it becomes a problem.
Why not be proactive? Think on these things:
- Dedicate time, money and resources to vital aspects your business—sales/marketing, operations, finance, IT and HR, etc.
- Make a plan and prioritize them EQUALLY as you need them all.
- Delegate or engage experts that can help you do this! We are all very talented humans, but UNABLE to focus or do everything equally well.
Your people are what make all of this work and if you're willing to be proactive on everything else but PEOPLE---what does that say about your business?

4yTrue words, Erin Spencer. I worked with some clients during my consulting experience who always seemed to have needs that had been festering for weeks, months, or even years. Waiting until you "figure it out" on your own can be a devastating risk, especially for small growing businesses.
