Professional Development - A Must for Everyone
Take the time to reflect on the skills that you / your manager feels are deficient or are in high demand for success in your profession. Then identify the courses and the amount of time that you can allocate to each course(s) and choose the course that best fits your requirements.
You may benefit from finding a trusted ally to serve as your mentor. Having a mentor is a great way to boost your chances of finding and landing a job that is professionally fulfilling. Mentors can help guide you on the path to achieving your career goals. They can help you understand the career you’ve chosen to pursue, answering questions and providing guidance.
By teaming with a mentor, you’ll gain a more accurate idea of what to expect in your field. Your mentor can also help you develop relevant skills and prepare for job interviews. Depending on the mentor, you might also be able to build industry connections; this can give you an added advantage during your job search.
Your approach and successes in advancing your skills will be viewed positively by colleagues and potential employers. Make this part of your career management plan of action. Never stop learning and raising your personal “bar”. Do not give your employer the excuse to replace you with a candidate who utilizes the hardware and software products better than you do. Make it a point to read about trends, issues and technologies that affect careers and on-the-job performance.
