Puberty: The Chapter No One Read to Us

Puberty: The Chapter No One Read to Us

Confusion wore a school uniform. And no one had the answers.

It didn’t start with a big announcement or some special guidebook.

It started with questions you didn’t know how to ask. With stained skirts tucked under sweaters. With discomfort you thought only you were feeling.

Most of us weren’t taught puberty. We stumbled into it.

Our bodies were changing but the conversations weren’t happening.

Nobody told us why we felt so emotional. Why our clothes fit differently. Why we suddenly felt unsure in our own skin.

Some girls got their period without knowing what it even was.

Some boys felt overwhelmed by feelings and didn’t know it was normal.

Instead of answers, we got silence.

Instead of support, we got shame.

And in that silence, too many of us learned to hide.

To pretend we were okay.

To assume that confusion was something to be ashamed of.

But puberty wasn’t the problem. The silence was.

Puberty is natural. Beautiful even. A sign that our bodies are growing, evolving, becoming. But when it’s met with shame instead of information, it stops feeling like growth and starts feeling like fear.

And this fear doesn’t just stay in our younger years.

It follows us into adulthood in how we view our bodies, express our emotions, or handle conversations around health, identity, and change.

So what if we did it differently for the next generation?

What if we made puberty less scary and more normal?

What if schools created space for honest, open conversations?

What if boys and girls learned together not just about their own bodies, but each other’s so we could replace teasing with understanding?

At Flowing Wisdom, this is what we’re working toward.

Not just lessons about menstruation or hygiene but real, safe spaces where young people can ask questions, share feelings, and grow together.

Because everyone deserves to feel seen and supported through their changes.

Because understanding our bodies shouldn’t come with shame.

Because maybe, just maybe, the next generation won’t have to stumble.

Let’s open the chapter. Let’s read it out loud. Let’s make puberty make sense.

💬 I’d love to hear your thoughts what do you wish someone had told you about puberty? What surprised you the most? Let’s break the silence together.
