Is it Public or Private cloud for telecom providers?

Telco cloud require cost efficiency and improved control to support application with stringent requirements for: Low Latency, specialized compute resources such as VNF's, RAN's, Edge locations and services etc. There are applications and services for which high demand resources are required 24*7, like IPTV and live streaming video etc. To achieve these features at low cost in a longer run, to have in-house or private cloud is cost effective compare to public cloud.

But, for telco applications, which are non-critical in nature and not rigid on latency requirements, public and hybrid cloud deployments can be ideal as they take advantage of scale on demand and pay per use capabilities. Applications which have requirements for standard CPU and no unique network dependencies like service assurance, charging or billing can be a good candidate for public cloud. Public cloud are also ideal candidate for POC's or innovative incubation projects, those can be good resource to have standby infrastructure for elastic capacity scaling and redundancy for critical service failure.

Combining private and public clouds into a hybrid cloud allows telcos to optimize the operations of a variety of workloads with different demand patterns. Hybrid cloud infrastructure can be highly elastic, agile, and resilient for network services and applications.
