Rediscovering Joy Through Giving: Dr. Kamyani's Incredible Journey with UPAY

"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."

                                                                           – Mahatma Gandhi

In a world chasing status and success, some souls quietly chase smiles. Meet Dr. Kamyani – a doctor by profession, a nurturer by passion, and a changemaker at heart.

Where It All Began

While practicing medicine in Dantoli, Dr. Kamyani came across an article that would quietly redirect her path — a story about Varun Srivastava’s initiative to educate street children through UPAY. Her long-standing passion for working with children was instantly reignited. Moved and inspired, she reached out to UPAY the very next day and began volunteering at the Footpathshala center near Yashwant Stadium.

What began as simple volunteering soon evolved into a deeply personal mission. Her early days were a beautiful blend of struggles and smiles, laying the foundation for a lifelong bond with UPAY. What started as a small step soon became one of the most meaningful journeys of her life.

 A Cinderella Moment

Of the many unforgettable memories, one stands out. While reading a pop-up Cinderella storybook at the Panchashil center, she saw a young girl giggle with wide-eyed wonder as the pumpkin carriage popped up. “That giggle,” she says, “was pure, unfiltered magic.”

From Volunteer to Visionary Leader

Though her medical commitments reduced her field time, Dr. Kamyani’s dedication never wavered. She transitioned into a leadership role, helping with strategy, resource planning, and outreach. Yet, her heart still longs for the classroom – reading stories, mentoring, and just being with the children.

Lessons from the Ground

She believes, “With the right people, structure, and sincerity, anything is possible.” Her experience taught her that genuine intention draws support, even funding. The hardest part? Building a passionate team that shares your vision.

The Children Who Keep Her Going

Ask her what keeps her showing up, and she’ll tell you – the children. Their smiles are pure magic. In a world that offers them little, they give back joy in abundance. Dr. Kamyani describes visiting UPAY centers as stepping into “a world of bright-eyed dreams and boundless happiness.”

Her Dream Come True

Dr. Kamyani’s proudest achievement? The UPAY Daycare Center. Once a dream, it is now a vibrant space where children play, laugh, and learn safely—away from the chaos of traffic and the streets.

A Message to Future Volunteers

“Everyone should work with an NGO at least once,” she insists. “Not just to give, but to discover your own power. It’ll pull you out of your comfort zone, and fill your life with purpose in ways you never imagined.”

Final Word

In one word, Dr. Kamyani sums up her journey with UPAY: “Incredible.” And it truly is. Her story isn’t just about social work. It’s about rediscovering life through the eyes of children. Through storybooks, laughter, and selfless love, Dr. Kamyani reminds us that true joy lies in giving back.
