Reflections from the 2025 Fidelis Care Summer Interns: Growth, Purpose, and the Power of Community

This summer, Fidelis Care welcomed a group of exceptional interns from across New York State who brought fresh ideas, curiosity, and a shared passion for making a difference in healthcare. After attending the 2025 Centene Corporation Intern Summit in St. Louis, our interns returned energized and inspired, ready to apply what they learned to the work they do every day.

Interns from across Centene and its affiliates gather for the Intern Summit in St Louis, Missouri.

The summit provided opportunities to collaborate with peers across the country, participate in professional development sessions, and gain insights into how innovation and equity are shaping the future of healthcare. But the real story lies in the personal journeys of each intern, what they’ve learned, how they’ve grown, and what this experience has meant to them.

Here's what a few of our interns had to say about their experience with Fidelis Care:

"Through this internship experience, I've learned a lot about the healthcare industry - all of which can't be taught in the classroom. My signature project was working with the Provider Relations team to enhance Access and Availability Standard compliance across the state. I'm excited to see the results and present my findings!" - Natalie Dreyer

Sonya Rao, center right, speaks with a fellow intern at the Intern Summit.

"My experience with Fidelis Care has been very rewarding! I've been able to work on a large scale project to support the operations of the Retention team. I'm excited to see how the new skills I've learned support me throughout my career." - Sonya Rao

"My experience with Fidelis Care has been incredibly rewarding. This summer I have been working with the Healthcare Transformation team on a regulatory readiness project, focusing on aligning reporting processes with New York State Department of Health standards. I’ve had the chance to collaborate with teams across the organization, analyze member experience data, and help identify areas for process improvement. It’s been a great learning experience, and I’m excited to take these skills with me as I continue to grow in the healthcare space!" - Kennedy Kyle

Fidelis Care interns enjoy an afternoon at Topgolf St. Louis.

"This summer, as a Population Health and Clinical Operations intern, I worked on a project to improve the intake and implementation process for the Innovative Partners Governance Committee. As the intake lead, I created a process to standardize form data, automate data transference, and organize intake responses for committee review. Most importantly, I learned about the member experience and how we can address social determinants of health: transforming the health of the communities we serve, one person at a time. I am so appreciative of everything I have learned and all the wonderful people that have supported me throughout my time at Fidelis Care!" - Hannah Kwon

Lillian Meehan, center, engages with a fellow intern at the Intern Summit.

"My internship with Fidelis Care has been an amazing opportunity to learn more about public health and health policy in the managed care space! This summer, I worked within the Finance team as a Graduate Health Plan Operations intern. I also had the chance to connect with leadership ranging from compliance and government affairs to business development. During my internship I completed my signature project focused on enhancing the Finance Team's OMIG (Office of the Medicaid Inspector General) Audit Process. My time with Fidelis has strengthened my understanding of process automation, data analytics and stewardship, and ability to work cross-functionally. I'm beyond grateful for all I have learned and the relationships I've built through this experience!" - Lillian (Lily) Meehan

"My internship at Fidelis Care on the Member Experience and Health Equity team has been an incredibly rewarding experience that deepened my understanding of managed care and has been an invaluable supplement to my Master of Public Health coursework. The rotational structure of my internship allowed me to work under diverse leadership styles, helping me become more adaptable and collaborative. I also gained hands-on exposure to project management skills, which strengthened my ability to contribute meaningfully to team initiatives and strategic goals." - Avery Clarke
