Safe care for every child this World Patient Safety Day
At CWPT, patient safety is of the utmost important to us. For World Patient Safety Day, we caught up with our Children’s Bladder and Bowel Service, who recently celebrated 1 year of providing care for children across Coventry and Warwickshire. From reducing health inequalities to working collaboratively with local organisations, our team ensure safe care for every child.
Our Children’s Bladder and Bowel Service recently celebrated 1 year of service, and then came together at Wayside House in April to celebrate their amazing first year as an operational service, complete with an appropriate cake!
The service has been carefully built over the past 12 months, with an aim of reducing the inequalities in provision of children’s bladder and bowel care between Coventry and Warwickshire, and the vision to provide a fully integrated continence service across our region. It is now fully open to referrals for children and young people with constipation, soiling, daytime and nighttime wetting across Coventry and Warwickshire.
The team developed a suite of clinical pathways, in collaboration with colleagues from universal services, to reflect the child’s journey from initial contact through to referral to the team. They’ve also spent time developing clinic resources, making the clinics more accessible and neurodiverse friendly, as well as designing toilet training workshops for parents and staff.
The feedback from parents and staff has been incredibly positive so far:
“You have changed my son’s and my life.” – parent of a 15-year-old
“I’m feeling better educated to be able to support parents.” - professional
