Saving Brains: one year on

Saving Brains: one year on

Last year, we launched our Saving Brains campaign and called for 24/7 universal access to game-changing stroke treatment thrombectomy, for all patients who could benefit.

Since then, thrombectomy teams across the country have worked tirelessly to improve access. However, last year alone, 6,903 people who needed a thrombectomy missed out on the treatment across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Access still depends on where patients live and when they have their stroke. To achieve NHS England’s commitment that by 2029 every stroke patient who needs a thrombectomy gets one, it’s vital we act now.

It's good to read about some progress with delivering thrombectomy to patients. Nevertheless, as well as getting patients out alive after #stroke there needs to be more focus on helping patients to live well in the community, especially for young survivors Stroke affects so many people at working-age.
