Scaling a $1B+ Financial Services Firm in Less Than 4 Years (While Having a Life)
If your business is taking over your life, it’s time to step back and rethink the playbook. Success shouldn’t come at the cost of everything else. The good news is, it doesn’t have to...
In this episode, the tables are turned as I take a seat as a guest on Michael Hyatt and Megan Hyatt Miller's podcast, “The Double Win.”
We dive into my journey of building Triad Partners—the company I co-founded to help independent financial advisors grow their businesses without losing sight of what really matters.
We cover everything from transitioning from a sales-driven mindset to a CEO role, to the importance of therapy for high-achieving entrepreneurs, to why culture will make or break your success.
I hope this conversation gives you practical insights and fresh perspectives to help you break free from the hustle trap.
Three Insights From This Week's Episode
Break the hustle cycle. Many financial advisors build a business only to find themselves working more hours than ever. We talk about the common cycle of “market, sell, repeat” and how to escape it by structuring your business to scale beyond you.
Change your mindset from salesperson to CEO. Scaling a business isn’t just about bringing in more clients—it’s about shifting from a doer to a leader. I share the biggest leadership lessons I’ve learned while growing Triad from the ground up and building a 100-person team in just four years.
Culture is everything. Hiring the best talent is important, but if they’re not a culture fit, they’ll do more harm than good. We break down how Triad built a movement around "Do Business, Do Life." and why culture is the ultimate competitive advantage.
“If you want to build a business bigger than you, you better focus a ton on vision, a ton on culture.” – Brad Johnson

Doing Business and Doing Life.
In today’s episode, I switched sides of the microphone as I was interviewed by Michael Hyatt and Megan Hyatt Miller on their podcast, “The Double Win.” It was such a fun conversation as we strolled down memory lane and I shared the story of how “Do Business. Do Life.” came to be, along with much of my journey through a career in finance.
One of the big topics we unpacked was the role of therapy in leveling up—not just in business but in life—and why, frankly, I think therapy deserves a serious rebrand. Over the course of my career, I’ve been lucky to share rooms with some of the top entrepreneurs and CEOs in a variety of industries.
One thing so many of them have in common? They embrace coaching in almost every area of their lives, like:
Business: Coaching is a must for navigating challenges and scaling success
Golf: My golf-loving clients wouldn’t dream of skipping a session with their coach
Physical fitness: Hiring a personal trainer is the go-to for staying sharp in the gym
But here’s the kicker: the most important area—our personal mindset and relationships—often gets overlooked. Why is that?
Since Michael, Megan and I touched on this during the episode, I wanted to reshare one of my most raw, real and vulnerable conversations: my personal journey with therapy and how it transformed not only me but also my marriage and family.
My hope is that someone out there reading this feels inspired to take the first step. I’ve even linked Psychology Today—a great resource for finding a therapist near you. Here’s to leveling up where it truly matters most.
