Scottish Nephrops returns to SEG

After an incredible first visit in 2022, the Scottish Nephrops project has just returned from another stand-out year at Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona – and not just because the weather was glorious!

For the second year running, we attended with our own stand, as part of the Scotland Pavilion, with the goal of spearheading a drive to position Scottish langoustines as the number-one choice, globally. It was encouraging to see so many new and familiar faces amongst the eager visitors to the stand over the busy three days. Chatting with contacts from Europe and further afield, we were able to introduce our top-quality Scottish langoustines to new buyers as well as catch up with existing ones.

Alongside Geoff Sloan and I from the Seafood Scotland team, we were joined by Uel Morton and Ian Wightman on the stand, both giving invaluable insight on the background and processes behind bringing Scotland’s delicious langoustines to the plate. Alongside them, we also had the team from Barra Atlantic and Angel Bond, taking the opportunity to chat to visitors about their product and getting insight from other exhibitors.

Scottish langoustines were also a key feature during the Seafood from Scotland media brunch which took place on the second day. Thanks to renowned chef Steve Walpole and his team, journalists and other media from the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, United States and the Netherlands where able to experience both the variety and fantastic quality of Scotland’s seafood, including a stunning Langoustine pil pil with chive oil and chilli shards, which went down a storm.

With attendees from countries around the world, events like Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global allow us to focus on promoting Scotland’s premium seafood to existing and new contacts, and it was the perfect opportunity to put Scottish langoustines firmly on the map. We’re looking forward to working with the team to help build on the contacts and potential leads they made there and hope to be back at SEG again in 2024.

Scottish Languostines … simply the best 👌, we’ve been working with frozen at sea vessels and shore based processors for years and it’s encouraging to see such an excellent product being promoted more widely
